Comrade Noorul Huda Shall Continue to Inspire

COMRADE Noorul Huda, a veteran of many struggles who carried a rare grace combined with resoluteness and humility in all he did, passed away after a brief illness on December 17, 2015. He was aged eighty six. In his long span in the Communist Movement spread across nearly seven decades, he made an impeccable contribution to the peasant movement. He selflessly worked throughout his life for the emancipation of the oppressed people, adhering to the Marxist-Leninist worldview.

Comrade Prasanna Kumar Is No More

The following is the statement issued by the Centre for Indian Trade Unions on December 23. CITU expresses its profound shock and grief at the sudden demise of Comrade S Prasanna Kumar, its national secretary and general secretary of its Karnataka state committee. He was 50. He was also a member of the secretariat of Karnataka state committee of CPI(M).Prasanna Kumar started his public life at a young age in the students’ movement and was an active member of the Students’ Federation of India.

Comrade Hashim Abdul Halim

Comrade Ajay Srivastava Passes Away

SENIOR comrade of the Loklahar editorial staff, Ajay Srivastava passed away in the early hours of October 12, 2015. He suffered a massive heart attack. He was ailing with diabetes which had affected his kidney.Comrade Ajay Srivastava was born in a Left oriented middle class family in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh on April 27, 1959. He was the youngest but the senior most member of the current editorial team of the Loklahar.

Tragic Death of Praful Bidwai

VETERAN journalist Praful Bidwai, 66, passed away on June 23 in Amsterdam where he was attending a conference. Praful, a friend of all Left wing causes and one of the most trenchant critics of the Hindutva agenda as also of neo-liberal policies authored several books and wrote a syndicated column carried by several newspapers. His articles which brought a Left wing analysis to critical subjects from foreign policy to political economy and social issues, were most well researched, providing valuable information and analysis to those in struggle.

AMALENDU GUHA

AMALENDU Guha who passed away on May 7 in Guwahati, was an outstanding Marxist intellectual of the country. He remained a life-long Communist, though his activist years were from 1943 to 1965. In 1962 when there was large-scale repression against Communists, he was incarcerated in Berhampore jail in Orissa where his co-inmates included Achintya Bhattacharya (one-time state secretary of the CPI(M) in Assam), Biresh Misra (one-time state secretary of the undivided Party in Assam), and Bishnu Prasad Rabha the legendary revolutionary poet of the state.

Comrade Narra Raghava Reddy

Comrade Narra Raghava Reddy, veteran Party leader, died on 10th April after prolonged illness, at the age of 92. He was elected as an MLA from Nakirekal constituency in Nalgonda district of present Telangana state for six times. He acted as the deputy leader and leader of the Party in the state assembly and always stood for the rights of people and championed the cause of the poor. He was elected to the state committee of the CPI(M) in 1971 and remained a member till his health permitted. He was imprisoned for four years during 1967 and in 1975.

Remembering Comrade P K Ganguly

IN Comrade P K Ganguly a trade union leader was born out of three currents of the movement – against ideological revisionism and trade union reformism; against drug multinationals and for country’s self-reliance in medicines and for trade union rights of the medical and sales representatives – entwined in a common movement in early 1970s. P K Ganguly was moulded in the fire of struggle and sacrifice under the guidance of Comrade B T Ranadive.
