KERALA: Professor Ninan Koshy Passes Away

EMINENT international political analyst, Christian theologist and Left sympathizer Prof Ninan Koshy passed away on March 4, at Thiruvananthapuram. He was the LDF candidate from Mavelikkara Lok Sabha constituency in the 1999 elections.

Born on February 1, 1934 at Thiruvalla, Ninan Koshy completed his education from St Beckman’s College Changanasseri and St John’s University, Agra. He worked as English Professor in CMS College, Kottayam, Marthoma College, Thiruvalla and retired from the post of vice principal at Bishop Moore College, Mavelikkara.

As an eminent educationist, he served in many top positions. He always upheld anti-imperialist stand and worked for the emancipation of downtrodden masses. Through his analytical wisdom, he identified that Church and believers must cooperate with the communists in the fight against imperialist onslaught and capitalist exploitation.

He penned various books on International affairs and three among them were published by the Left word –War on Terror, Re defining the world, under the Empire and India’s New Foreign PolicyUncle Sam’s Nuclear Cabin is the third book he co-authored that was published by the Left Word.

He is survived by wife Susan and daughters Shyni, and Nainy.

CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat, state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, opposition leader V S Achuthanandan   expressed deep sorrow on the death of Prof Ninan Koshy.  Karat in his condolence message, said that his death is a huge loss for the progressive and democratic movement in Kerala and India.
