Left parties organised a state convention at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Hyderabad, on September 10 demanding the Indian government to protect the democratic rights of the people. State secretariat member of CPI(M), D G Narasimha Rao, presided over the meeting.   K Srinivas, editor of Telugu daily Andhra Jyothi attended the meet as the chief guest and said that people all over the country are talking about Kashmir but the situation there is not as most people imagine. 

ON AUGUST 31, a strong rally of the agricultural workers was held in Kolkata to infuse fighting spirit within agriculturalists of the country. Over 50,000 farmers and agricultural workers, at the call of AIKS and AIAWU,  mobilised at the heart of Kolkata, at Rani Rashmoni Avenue, demanding an end to the anti- peasantry mindset of the Modi led union government, which they told is being supplemented by the  Mamata led TMC run state government in West Bengal. 

At the joint call of CITU, AIKS and AIAWU, rallies and demonstrations were organised across Punjab on September 5, demanding minimum wages of Rs 18,000 per month and implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendations. Above picture is of the joint rally held at Garhshankar.

THE CITU was successful in getting a stay order from the AP High Court against the closure of Chittivalasa Jute Mill. Interestingly, the memorandum of understanding for closure of the mill was arrived between the management of the mill and four workers union, viz., INTUC, AITUC, TNTUC and YSRTUC. The CITU had opposed this agreement and had promised to continue with the struggle. The agreement was arrived on July 24, 2019.

IQBAL Ahmad, resident of Anantnag had tears rolling down his eyes as his wife called him from a local police station in Anantnag after three days of jostling. This is how; apparently all over Kashmir valley; the people are forced to queue up at the police stations to call their relatives in mainland India; in Srinagar city just 300 landlines are made functional, it’s ridiculous! Iqbal, along with two other elected panchayat representatives, who are from the Bakarwal tribal community had come to tell their woes to the leaders of the political parties in New Delhi.
