TN: Leaders Call for Unity Among Secular Forces to Defeat Communalism

IN a meeting organised by the Tamil Nadu platform for people's unity at Chennai Raja Annamalai Mandram on July 23, leaders of secular parties called for unity among all the secular forces and parties to defeat fascist forces in the country and to save democracy. Speaking on the occasion, senior Congress leader and the former union minister, P Chidambaram said that not only in India but also in all other countries religion is traversing a dangerous political path.

TN: Convention against Domestic Violence

TAMIL Nadu is witnessing an increase in domestic violence, according to the recently released National Family Health Survey-5. Concerned over this problem, the CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee organised a convention against domestic violence to draw the attention of the state government as well as the general public to it. In order to find remedies to this malady, the convention brought a wider section of social activists under a platform to evolve a plan of action.

Rajasthan: State Convention against Communalism and Anti-People Policies

IN Jaipur, on July 24, 2022, a state-level convention against the politics of communal polarisation and anti-people policies was held in the auditorium of Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan at Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Jaipur.

The conference was inaugurated by Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

A LARGE contingent of activists of Kerala Karshaka Sangham, the affiliated unit of the All India Kisan Sabha marched towards Parliament Street, New Delhi and sat in a day-long dharna on July 26, 2022, to bring a very sensitive and dangerous issue of human-animal conflict in the state of Kerala to the attention of the union government.  

AIFAWH Holds Huge Anganwadi Adhikar Mahapadav

AT the call of the All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH), thousands of Anganwadi workers and helpers participated in the ‘Anganwadi Adhikar Mahapadav’ that began in New Delhi on July 26. The four-day long mahapadav will conclude on July 29 with a pledge to intensify the struggles further.  More than seven thousand Anganwadi workers and helpers joined the mahapadav on its first day with a resolve to fight against anti-worker, anti-people, anti-scheme workers policies of the ruling dispensation.

Dairy Farmers’ Protest Demands Revocation of GST on Dairy Products, Machinery

THE GST Council in its 47th Meeting held on June 28-29 had recommended imposition of 5 per cent GST on dairy products and 18 per cent GST on dairy machinery. Dairy Farmers Federation of India has been of the opinion that this move, along with absence of a Fair & Remunerative Price (FRP) and rising costs of green fodder is going to adversely impact small dairy farmers, who constitute 75 per cent of nine crore households engaged in dairy production in India.

N Sankaraiah turns 101

VETERAN CPI(M) leader and ‘Emeritus Tamilar’. N Sankaraiah turned 101 on July 15. Considering the prevailing spread of Corona in the state, the CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee has advised the party units to celebrate the occasion in a safe manner within their areas and not to disturb the leader by rushing to his house. Accordingly, various district committees organised local programmes to recall his more than 80 years of public service.
