THE people of Tripura positively responded to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s call for rural India bandh and the call of the Central Trade Unions for industrial/sectoral strike on February 16. Defying the open threat from the ruling miscreants, and aggressive picketing by the BJP sponsored BMS workers against bandh, the peasantry and the working people of the state spontaneously abstained from the workplace in large numbers. Though it was not a general strike, the number of vehicles on the road was evidently low.

THE recent happenings in Sandeshkhali and the swell of public discontent clearly indicate that the people are no longer willing to tolerate such rapacious and ruinous misrule enforced by Trinamool Congress in rural Bengal.

Protest rallies, processions, sit-in and various other forms of demonstrations took place in most sub-divisions, highlighting the indifferent and hostile approach pursued by the Modi government towards Kerala.

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) issued a statement on February 14, saluting the martyrdom of Comrade Anarul Islam who was brutally killed by the West Bengal police during his participation in the SKM-CTU joint mobilisation and civil-disobedience action held peacefully on February 13, 2024, in Domkal, Murshidabad district, West Bengal.

THE Maharashtra state committees of the SFI and DYFI organised an impressive statewide rally and public meeting of students and youth at the Azad Maidan in Mumbai on January 31, 2024. The last statewide rally of the SFI-DYFI was held six years ago in 2018. The two main slogans of this rally which were popularised all over Maharashtra were “stop hate, lies and violence!” and “save education, give jobs!” Around 5,000 students and youth from 16 districts of the state took part in the rally.
