WEST BENGAL: Chowkidar of Crony Capitalism Must be Defeated

BUDDHADEB Bhattacharjee, former chief minister of West Bengal, in an exclusive interview to Ganashakti, said that the demolition of the Modi model, a concoction of virulent communalism and crony capitalism, is the most important responsibility of the people of this country. He said that the time is favourable to assemble all the anti-communal forces on one platform to fight against this fascist dispensation currently ruling the country.

WEST BENGAL: CPI(M) Worker Protesting Vote Loot Killed

CPI(M) worker from West Bengal, Comrade Sk Kamrul, was killed  and five others were grievously injured after members of Trinamool Congress (TMC) assaulted them at Khandaghosh in East Burdwan district on May 5. They were attacked for organising a protest against the ‘vote loot’, the capturing of election booths by the ruling party, in Khandaghosh, Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency, where elections would be held on May 12.

Less Participation of People in Election Warrants Introspection from Political Leadership

THE indiscriminate arrests of youths across Kashmir and particularly in southern districts of the Valley in the recent times will erode people’s trust in the government further and widen the gulf which would be difficult to bridge.

TELANGANA: Protests Over Discrepancies in Intermediate Results

CONTROVERSY erupted after the Intermediate exam results in Telangana were declared on April 18. The success rate of first-year students was 60.5 per cent and second-year students 64.8 per cent. Girls outshone boys in the examinations. The success rate was increasing every year, whereas this year it has fallen compared to last year. This has raised doubts in the minds of the students, parents and intellectuals, and they questioned the authenticity of the results.

Roll Call of MLAs will not Save TMC

In a meet the press programme held in Calcutta Press Club on April 27, Surjya Kanta Misra, secretary of the CPI(M), West Bengal state committee, said, ‘Everyday TMC is now taking a roll call of its MLA’s to find out,  how many are left, and how many have gone to BJP. But this roll calling will not save the party. Soon the entire TMC will be transformed to BJP, as it happened in Tripura.’

People Demand Fresh Poll in West Tripura

PEOPLE all over the West Tripura parliamentary seat came out to demand countermanding the poll held on April 11 and hold a fresh poll. At the call of the Left Front, protest marches and dharnas were organised in different subdivisions falling under the constituency. 

As is separately reported in this very issue of People’s Democracy, the CPI(M)  has met the  Election Commission of India and demanded the same, citing major and widespread irregularities on the day of poll. 

Tripura: People Vote Despite Intimidation by BJP Goons

PEOPLE in the East Tripura parliamentary constituency exercised their voting rights in large numbers on April 23 despite attempts by goons of the ruling BJP to intimidate them. Polling in the constituency was deferred from April 18 to April 23 as the prevailing law-and-order situation there, was not conducive for holding free and fair poll. In the first phase polling in West Tripura seat on April 11, there were reports of largescale violence and booth capturing.
