As Army & Rapid Support Forces Battle it Out, Sudanese Left Calls for Restoring the Revolution

TENSIONS simmering between Sudan’s army and the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) boiled over into armed clashes on the morning of Saturday, April 15, following disagreements over the integration of the autonomous RSF into the army’s command chain.The issue of integration was a key aspect of a deal that Sudan’s ruling junta was to sign with right-wing civilian forces to share power with the latter. The Left in Sudan has been critical of the proposed deal, questioning the sincerity of the parties.

Deplorable Condition of Schools in North East Delhi

THE North East Delhi unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organised a “Ghanti Bajao, Kejriwal Sarkar ko Jaago” programme on April 26 to draw attention to the deplorable condition of schools in North East Delhi and to urge the Kejriwal government to take action. Hundreds of students and their families participated in the programme, which involved ringing bells and distributing a demand letter to the education minister and the chief minister regarding the problems faced by the schools.

Delhi: DSMM Celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti

THE 132nd birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar was yet again celebrated by the Delhi unit of the Dalit Shoshan Mutki Manch (DSMM) on Parliament Street on April 14 with cultural and political programmes highlighting his ideas of equality and social justice.The cultural fest on the Parliament Street began with songs by Ratan Gambhir. The songs talked about the need for unity of the working class and dalits, warning them against the agenda of hatred and division pursued by the Hindutva forces.

Vivan Sundaram - A Tribute

VIVAN Sundaram, one of the most influential and radically creative artists of the post 1960s generation passed away on March 29 after a brief illness. Vivan actively aligned himself with the Left and progressive movement in general and with the CPI(M) in particular. His contribution to the anti-communal and pro-people movements and the formation and functioning of the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust are a legacy to cherish. The Shergil Sundaram Art Foundation and the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust organised a memorial meeting attended by artists, writers, poets, activists and friends of Vivan. S

WB: Police Brutality Fails to Stop DYFI Uttar Kanya Abhiyan

APRIL 13 saw a massive mobilisation of DYFI activists marching along the main thoroughfare in Siliguri towards the Uttar Kanya, the branch secretariat building for north Bengal, to get their message heard. The march was a part of state-wide protests on issues ranging from permanent appointment to vacant posts and creation of permanent new posts, doubling the guaranteed days of work under MNREGA from 100 to 200, fair price for farmers, free and fair panchayat elections and against the politics of corruption and communal division.
