AP: Left Parties Demand Immediate Halting of Attacks on Rafah
A CONVENTION held in Vijayawada demanded that the governments of Israel and the United States stop attacks on Rafah city and appealed to the Government of India to cease arms supply to Israel. The Left parties held a convention in solidarity with Palestine at Vijayawada on June 3. CPI(M) state secretary V Srinivasa Rao presided over the meeting and placed a resolution, which was adopted unanimously. He described how the people of Palestine were displaced from their homeland and highlighted the US's imperialist machinations behind it. The resolution exposed the role of the Modi government, which deviated from India's age-old policy since the national movement. It reminded the participants of India's role in the Non-Aligned Movement. Srinivasa Rao explained how the BJP government had deviated from that line and was supplying arms to Israel. The convention appealed to all democratic and peace-loving people to exert pressure on the Government of India to break diplomatic ties with Israel.
CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna spoke on the occasion and criticised the Modi government's role. He said that the people of Palestine have been waging a national movement which should be supported by people all over the world. P Prasad of CPI(ML) New Democracy recalled the Vietnamese experience of the 1960s and extended solidarity to the Palestinians. N Murty, state secretary of CPI(ML) Liberation, and Sudheer of SUCI(Communist) also spoke on the occasion. CPI(ML), MCPI(U), and CPI(ML) New Democracy state committees extended their support to the resolution even though they couldn’t attend. Koteswara Rao, CPI Vijayawada city council secretary, welcomed the speakers, and Ramana, CPI(M) city committee leader, proposed the vote of thanks..
