The Situation Now & the Nov 26 General Strike

THE present situation for the workers is not like the usual. It is certainly unusual. But, is it ‘New’? Is it ‘New Normal’? Is it ‘Abnormal’? What type of a situation is this?

It is necessary to understand this to deal with the present situation.

The change in the situation was dramatically brought about with the sudden announcement of the countrywide lockdown on the evening of March 24th. The lockdown came into force in four hours.

J & K: People's alliance will contest DDC elections jointly

THE people's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration(PAGD) has stated that it will jointly contest the elections to the DDC(district development council). A statement in this regard was made on November 7, 2020, in Jammu. Farooq Abdulla from National Conference, Mehbooba Mufti from PDP and Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami from the CPI(M) amongst others were present during the press briefing.

This was the first meeting outside the Kashmir valley in Jammu which took place in the residence of Dr Farooq Abdulla.

Haryana: Oppose 20times MBBS fee hike

THE CPI(M) Haryana has strongly opposed the decision of the state government to hike twenty times the fees of MBBS and PG courses of government medical colleges in Haryana. The present fees for the courses are Rs 53,000. With this decision, now from this session, every student who gets admission in MBBS in Haryana medical colleges will have to submit a bond worth of Rs 10 lakh every year. This will include the fees of that year also.

Bihar: Communal Polarisation remains foremost Weapon in the NDA’s Arsenal

THE nail biting finish of Bihar election result in favor of the NDA raises many questions regarding the fairness of counting of votes as the last tranche of votes were being counted. The results were poised for either way, at least in 10 seats which had slender leads were managed in favour of the NDA. When the issue was raised by Mahagathbandhan allies with the election commission it denied any wrong doing on its part and brushed aside the objections.

Tripura: Reach out to Every House, Call for Nov 26

On November 1, 2020, an impressive state level convention of Left trade unions and mass organisations of Tripura was held at Agartala Town Hall to herald the message of 10 central trade unions and fraternal mass organisations who had made a joint call of a nationwide strike on November 26.  The convention was presided over by a presidium comprising Panchali Bhattacharjee, Kalipada Bhattacharjee, Raghunath Sarkar, Shyamal Datta and Debashish Roy.

DoT Blames BSNL for Delaying 4G services, Unions Say Fair Playing Ground Denied

WHILE the private telecom companies are set to introduce the 5G services, the BSNL employees and unions have been demanding the introduction of 4G services for long.

As the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is yet to start the fourth generation (4G) services, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has put blame on the public sector telecom service provider for 'deliberately delaying' rolling out the 4G network.
