Manik Sarkar Obstructed in GandachharraTHE opposition leader and former chief minister Manik Sarkar was obstructed from entering the Government Dak Bungalow on June 11, by 15-20 goons of BJP in Gandachharra of Dhalai district. Sarkar is on a four-day tour of Dhalai and North Tripura districts with opposition's chief whip Tapan Chakraborty and MLA Prabhat Choudhury to visit the areas of Gandachharra, Langtaraivalley and Kanchanpur subdivisions where people, especially in tribal areas, are facing an acute problem of food and joblessness.

THE CPI(M) launched a campaign, ‘Poraduvom Tamizhagame’, in Tamil Nadu to sensitise the people about the suppression of democratic rights, excesses committed by the police, unbridled corruption, administrative bungling and the anti-people attitude of the AIADMK government.As part of the campaign -- ‘Poraduvom Tamizhagame’ (Tamil Nadu Protests), six rallies were taken out from different parts of the state and these culminated in Trichy with a public meeting on June 14.

Continuous Persecution of Dalits: CPI(M) Leaders Visit Victims Families in MP

THE CPI(M) held a two months campaign since April 2, 2018 against the continuous persecution of dalits and held a massive public meeting in Fulbagh, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Through the meeting the CPI(M) demanded immediate release of innocent dalits, arrest of the murderers, a judicial inquiry by a High Court judge, compensation of Rs One crore to the families of the deceased and an ordinance to correct the Supreme Court order on the Prevention of Atrocities Act.Addressing the meeting, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury termed the repression against dalits as highly reprehensible.

MAHARASHTRA: Joint Convention against Modi’s Pet Bullet Train Project

ON June 3, 2018, a large convention against the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, a pet elitist project of the BJP’s Modi government that will lead to disastrous land acquisition from the peasantry in both Maharashtra and Gujarat, was held at Palghar by the Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan (BAA). The joint organisers were the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), Kashtakari Sanghatana, Shoshit Jan Andolan, National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM), Gujarat Khedut Samaj, Paryavaran Suraksha Samiti and others.

WEST BENGAL: CPI(M) Supporter Killed in Coochbehar

MURDEROUS attacks on the opposition continue in West Bengal after blood-soaked panchayat elections in the state. Recent targets are those who won the elections braving terror and heinous attacks. In a gruesome incident, CPI(M) supporter Rajan Ali Mian was brutally murdered in Coochbehar district.The CPI(M) candidate Atabul Islam won in one seat in Harirbari village under Jamaldaha village panchayat in Mekhliganj in Coochbehar district. Atabul, a former SFI leader, is popular in his village. He was the only opposition candidate who won in that village panchayat.

The Third Martyr, Pradip DebbarmaTHE number of martyrs in the BJP-IPFT coalition regime rose to three on Monday, June 4. Comrade Pradip Debbarma (35), an active member of CPI(M) and TYF was brutally murdered by saffron goons and his body was thrown away in a nearby rivulet. On Monday morning his body was recovered from that rivulet near a brick cline along the Assam-Agartala national highway in Jirania Subdivision of West Tripura.Since the results of assembly elections, the house of Comrade Pradip has been attacked twice. He was not staying at home.

First Death Anniversary of Kisans of Mandsaur

THE first death anniversary of the six kisans who were shot dead in Mandsaur was observed by the BJP government and the kisan organisations in their own way.The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government turned the state into a fortress of police, fearing the fury and anger of the kisans. For a week, the print and visual media in the state was flooded with false achievements and promises of the government. The kisan organisations as part of the all India protest call, held a demonstration in Mandsaur.

Barbaric Killing of Anti-Sterlite Protesters

THE All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has condemned the killings of anti-Sterlite protesters in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu as the most barbaric massacre in recent times. On May 22, police opened fire without any warning on a peaceful rally of thousands of people seeking closure of the polluting Sterlite copper smelting unit, killing 13 people and leaving hundreds injured.Soon after the news of the killings came, the AIKS decided to send a fact-finding committee.
