One Year of Communal Violence in Delhi

THE Delhi state committee of the CPI(M) organised a press conference on February 23, on the theme “Subversion of Justice, Role of State Agencies”, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the communal violence in North East Delhi.  Brinda Karat, CPI(M) Polit Bureau Member, K M Tiwari, secretary, Delhi state committee and six persons representing the families of the deceased/injured addressed the press conference.Representatives of the bereaved families laid bare the partisan role of the Delhi police in the communal violence.

BJP Begins to Pay Political Price as Farmers Struggle Completes Three Months

IN the week before the historic nationwide farmers’ struggle completed three months on February 26, the BJP has begun to pay a heavy political price for its pro-corporate adamancy.STINGING SLAPS TO BJP INPUNJAB, WEST UP & HARYANAOn February 17, the results of the elections to eight municipal corporations and 109 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Punjab were declared. The BJP was handed down a stinging defeat even by urban voters. Of the total 1,815 seats in the 109 municipal bodies, the BJP won only 38 seats.

SFI Condemns Violations of Reservation Norms

THE central executive committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has condemned the seemingly deliberate attempt by centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs) to bypass reservation norms. Condemning the lack of initiative on the part of the ministry of education to address the issue of severe under-representation of students belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories in technical education and research, it has demanded an immediate intervention from the president of India on the issue.

AP: Protests Against Privatisation of Vizag Steel Plant

THE Modi government’s decision to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has resulted in widespread protests from across the state of Andhra Pradesh. A relay hunger strike camp was staged by the Visakhapatnam Steel Conservation Struggle Committee (VSCSC) near the main gate on February 12. Dr Kolla Rajamohan Rao, who was a part of the Students’ Action Committee of the historic Vizag Steel movement back in 1966-67, shared his experiences of being a part of the “Visakha Ukku - Andhrula Hakku'' movement.
