AIFFWF Delegation meets Minister On Issues Faced by Fishers

A DELEGATION of All India Fishers and Fisheries Workers’ Federation (AIFFWF) comprising Tushar Ghosh, its president, Hemalata, general secretary, VV Saseendran, treasurer and Koottayi Basheer and P Stanly, both secretaries, met the union minister for environment and forests Prakash Javadekar on December 1, and submitted a memorandum on the difficulties faced by the fishers and other traditional people living in the country’s coastal areas due to the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notification 2011.

Labour Law Reforms: Some Reflections on the Contemporary Debate

THE Modi government announces its big ticket labour market reforms. Branded as Shramev Jayate, these labour reforms have the objective of pleasing both labour and capital and removing the ‘obstacles’ to economic investment and growth. But Modi is not alone in trying to please labour and capital in one stroke. Even those politically opposed to him are arguing that labour reforms are needed and that they should be suited to address the problems of labour market rigidities which have traditionally held back economic growth.

BSNL Casual Contract Workers March

MORE than 500 casual contract workers held a rally at Eastern Court, Delhi and marched to the Bharat Sanchar Bhawan, head office of the BSNL, under the banner of BSNL Casual and Contract Workers Federation, on October 15, demanding that their long pending issues be settled. The workers have come from all parts of the country with the banners of the union, flags and also wall posters with the demands.

WFTU International Day of Action on Oct 3 Observed Successfully all over the Country

THIRD October, the Foundation Day of World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) is observed every year as International Day of Action. This year, WFTU gave the call to observe International Day of Action focussing on the slogan ‘Fighting against Unemployment; For Dignified Work’. The WFTU termed unemployment as the ‘biggest, most dangerous problem for the international working class in the whole capitalist world’.
