SBI Sets a Bad Precedent

STATE Bank of India (SBI), the largest public sector bank in india and the largest bank in the world with regard to network, has set a bad precedent last week by announcing a steep hike in service charges on various categories and introducing certain new service charges.

Neoliberalism and Trade Unions - I

Neoliberalism, the latest phase of capitalism was a response of the capitalist system to the crisis of the 1970s. It gained prominence since the 1980s when the USA and the UK started implementing neoliberalism by embarking upon a programme of economic restructuring. This was later imposed on the entire world through international financial institutions like the IMF and the World Bank. By the 1990s, most of the countries across the world incorporated neoliberal policies as part of their programmes.

Whose Cause RBI Top Executives are Serving?

THE public statements of governor and deputy governor of RBI advocating privatisation of public sector banks are highly deplorable. Naturally a suspicion arises in the minds of the common public as to whose cause they are serving, public cause or that of corporates?

EEFI Holds National Convention on Equal Wage for Equal Work

THE Electricity Employees’ Federation of India (EEFI) has organised a national convention on ‘Equal Wage for Equal Work’ at Mavalankar Auditorium in New Delhi on April 27, 2017. The convention with participation over one thousand workers, employees and engineers from almost all the states and union territories of the country representing central, state and private power utilities, has adopted a resolution towards needful action on the part of the government to ensure implementation of Supreme Court judgment on equal wage for equal work.

Union Budget: Deadly Push to Privatisation

A NATIONAL convention of central public sector workers was organised in Bengaluru on January 29, jointly by CITU, AITUC, HMS, INTUC, LPF, Joint Action Front (JAF), Bengaluru, and the Coordination Committee of CPSU Unions of Hyderabad. It was attended by more than four hundred leading representatives of trade unions from all the major central public sector undertakings (CPSU) in the country. But before we delve into the deliberation and decisions of the convention, it is of utmost importance to write on the gigantic event which was planned as precursor to the convention.

The Landmark Conference of BSNL Employees Union

BSNL Employees Union, the main recognised union of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, conducted its eighth all India conference at Chennai, from December 31, 2016 to January 3, 2017. 1,632 delegates and observers attended this conference. BSNL is one of the biggest public sector companies employing 2.25 lakh workers and officers. Hence, the conference was crucial, not only for the union and the employees, but to the BSNL as well.

THE 17th Congress of World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) was held in Durban in South Africa from October 5-8, 2016 with the slogans ‘Struggle – Internationalism – Unity’ and ‘Forward, for the attainment of the contemporary needs of the working class against poverty and wars generated by capitalist barbarism!’
