THE All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued on February 15, has strongly condemned the killing of Comrade Swapan Malik by TMC goons at Raina Block of Burdwan District on February 11 during a protest by peasants and agricultural workers against the anti-people Mamata Banerjee regime. TMC goons attacked with weapons and bombs when a massive rally was held demanding ration cards for the poor peasants and agricultural workers. Many people were injured in the attack. Com Swapan Malik, a poor farmer who was an activist of the Kisan Sabha was killed in their attack.
Professor Randhir Singh, Marxist thinker, activist and teacher passed away on January 31, 2016, at the age of 94. His immense popularity as a teacher gave him almost a cult status, which however remained irrelevant to him personally. It was his activism, combined with his intellectual engagement as a communist ideologue, that was relevant for him.
THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions, in a statement issued on January 7, expressed shock and grief at the sudden demise of Comrade Chandi Prasad, veteran leader of the working class movement in undivided Bihar and former national vice president of CITU. He passed away on January 7, 2016 at Patna. He was 88.
THE All India Kisan Sabha has organised a condolence meeting on January 4, 2016 to pay tributes to Comrade Noorul Huda at the AIKS central office, in New Delhi. The meeting was presided over by S Ramachandran Pillai, vice president of AIKS. THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions is extremely grieved at the sad demise of Comrade A B Bardhan, veteran leader of the working class movement in our country and a senior stalwart of the Indian communist movement. He passed away on January 2, 2016 after prolonged illness. He was ninety two year old.
COMRADE Noorul Huda, a veteran of many struggles who carried a rare grace combined with resoluteness and humility in all he did, passed away after a brief illness on December 17, 2015. He was aged eighty six. In his long span in the Communist Movement spread across nearly seven decades, he made an impeccable contribution to the peasant movement. He selflessly worked throughout his life for the emancipation of the oppressed people, adhering to the Marxist-Leninist worldview.
