THE All India Democratic Women’s Association, in a statement issued on October 18, has extended its unequivocal support to the demand of Muslim women for an abolition of the instant arbitrary triple talaq. In its own campaigns, AIDWA has seen overwhelming support of Muslim women for this demand.

Jharna Das Baidya, CPI(M) MP from Tripura raised a Special mention in the Rajya Sabha on August 3, on the issue of recent cases of trafficking of 31 young tribal girls from Assam. She expressed shock at the trafficking of 31 young tribal girls from Assam to Punjab and Gujarat, in the name of education, to indoctrinate them in Hindutva at the RSS camps. This violates the national and international laws on child trafficking. The victim girls belong to Bodo and Santhal communities in Assam’s Kokrajhar district. They were all aged between 8 to 14 years.

AIDWA Welcomes Order by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes

THE tenth Maharashtra state conference of the All India Democratic Women’s Association was held in the Shaheed Dr Narendra Dabholkar Nagar in Sangli city from June 3-5, 2016. The hall of the conference was named after Shamali Gupta and the dais was named after Shaheed Com Govind Pansare.

AIDWA Expresses Solidarity with Pakistan's Women

The All India Democratic Women’s Association(AIDWA) in a statement issued on June 3 has expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s women who reacted strongly to the statement made by Pakistan clergy “Beat wives lightly” as a violation of fundamental rights of women. AIDWA also condemned similar derogatory remarks by people holding public offices in India. AIDWA protested when the WCD minister made such remark in the context of marital rape not being applied to Indian families. It also protested against attack on Section 498A which criminalises domestic violence.

THE newly elected Left Democratic Front government has made a history by including two women in the cabinet.

AIDWA Condemns Heinous Attacks in Bengal

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association, in a statement issued on May 23, has strongly condemned the heinous attacks unleashed by the winning Trinamul Congress activists on the women in West Bengal as part of the post-poll violence. Most of the AIDWA activists are attacked and hundreds had to flee from their residence in villages and cities. AIDWA leader Mukta had to leave her home in Hugli. ICDS worker Indrani Mukherjee was attacked in Bankura. Sukla Ghosh, another activist had to leave her residence in Chandrokona in Paschim Medinipur.

JMS DELHI CONFERENCE: Intensify Struggles for the Rights of Working Class & Young Women

THE Janwadi Mahila Samiti, Delhi held its XII State Conference from April 15-17, 2016 in the context of growing assault on the rights of women and working classes under the current Modi government. The conference was attended by 147 women from the NCR region and held deliberations on political situation today and its implications for the social and economic rights of women. The conference called upon women to expand their organisation amongst the young and working class women and organise them against the neo-liberal policies of the government.
