Murder of Progressive Journalist

CPI(M)  Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on September 21

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the murder of a progressive journalist Santanu Bhowmick by BJP-backed IPTF miscreants in Tripura.

On the heels of the murder of Gauri Lankesh has come yet another killing of a progressive journalist. There is a clear pattern in this – employed by the RSS-BJP particularly in the states were elections are due – of silencing progressive journalists and the dissemination of truth to the people.

All India Convention of Mass Organisations on Sept 18

ALL sections of people are suffering due to the pro-corporate, authoritarian policies of the BJP led central government. This government is getting exposed due to its own wrong policies. The demonetisation had disastrous impact on the life of common people. The GDP which was 7.9 per cent in 2016 April-June quarter has declined to 5.7 per cent in the same period in 2017 resulting in a loss of Rs 3.3 lakh crore to the people.

Remembering Gauri Together

A SOMBRE gathering of journalists, press workers and lawyers, under joint banners met at the Delhi Union of Journalists Amphitheatre, to remember journalist Gauri Lankesh together and condemned hate forces responsible for her death. They were backed by colourful posters of the Delhi Union of Journalists, SAHMAT and some pieces of poetry by members. The meeting on September 11, was organised jointly by the DUJ, the All India Newspaper Employees Federation, the National Alliance of Journalists, Press Unity Centre, KUWJ Delhi and All India Lawyers Union.

On Media Reports

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on September 8

SOME reports have appeared in the media that the Polit Bureau meeting held on September 6-7 has decided that the situation warrants a change in alignment.

The Polit Bureau wishes to clarify that the process of discussions for preparing the Draft Political Resolution has just begun. How to carry forward the main task of fighting the BJP, as decided in the last Party Congress will be finalised and the Draft Resolution will be placed before the Central Committee.

 

Expulsion from Party

RITABRATA Banerjee, member of the West Bengal state committee of the Party, who was earlier facing disciplinary action, has been summarily expelled for grave anti-Party activities.  This decision was taken unanimously by the West Bengal state secretariat, at its meeting held on September 13, 2017, under Article 19 (13) of the Constitution.

Demonetisation: No Gain; Short Term & Long Time Pain

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury addressing a press meet on August 31, at AKG Bhavan in New Delhi has posed the following questions that demand answers.

1. Who decided to demonetise? (Was it the PM?) Is that the reason why Raghuram Rajan was forced to go?

2. More than 100 people died in queues, trying to get their own
hard-earned money due to PM’s announcement. Who is responsible? Why no compensation? Is there an FIR?

Misuse of UAPA

CPI(M)  Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on September 1, 2017
The Polit Bureau strongly opposes the use of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) to file charges against P Jayarajan, member of the Kerala state committee of the CPI(M) and secretary of the Kannur district committee.

SFI, DSMM Demand Review of NEET Exam

ON September 1, S Anitha, who was a petitioner against the centralised NEET examination, committed suicide. Condoling her death, the Students’ Federation of India in a statement issued on September 2, said that the 17-year old dalit girl Anitha, who has done exceptionally well in academics had scored 1176 marks out of 1200 in the plus two exams under the Tamil Nadu state board, but could score only 76 out of 700 in NEET. She prepared for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) ignoring all hindrances.

Sept 1 Observed as World Peace & Anti-imperialist Day

THE Central Committee gave a call to observe September 1 as the world peace and anti-imperialist day. With the BJP led NDA government assuming power, Indian foreign policy witnessed a distinct shift. The surrender of the Modi government to US imperialism has reduced India into a junior strategic ally of US imperialism. This policy shift is detrimental to the interests of our country and should be resisted. The following points have been highlighted during the campaign.
