SFI Demands Immediate Withdrawal of Added Taxation on Sanitary Napkins

THE Students’ Federation of India, in a statement issued on July 10, has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the added taxation on sanitary napkins and ensure the maximum reach of the menstrual protection tools at lowest prices. In the recent GST effected by the Modi government, sanitary pads are considered as luxury items and taxed accordingly, when the reality is that these are a basic necessity for a woman’s healthy life.

Amarnath Attack Denounced

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on July 11.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) denounces the dastardly attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Anantnag district in Jammu & Kashmir. Seven people, mostly women, were killed and 19 injured in a terrorist attack while returning from the pilgrimage.

The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and its sympathies for all those injured.

Kisan Mukti Yatra Pays Homage to Mandsaur Martyrs

THE brutal events of May 5, 2017 will probably change the course of politics in Madhya Pradesh.  Five, mostly young, agitating farmers died on the spot of bullet wounds in Pipilyamandi town of Mandsaur district. One more succumbed to his injuries later on.  This act of unparalleled brutality – all those who died had been shot above their waists, a 17 year old was shot in the head in the police station – created shock waves across the state.

Resolve GST Problems

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on June 30.

Increasing Violence and Lynchings against Muslims: CPI(M) Delegation Meets Home Minister

A CPI(M)  delegation along with the sons of Md. Iklakh and Pehlu Khan, both victims of lynch mobs, and other affected families met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on July 4 and gave him a memorandum detailing five specific cases of violence and lynching against Muslim families in the NCR region. The delegation comprised of Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat, Surinder Malik and KM Tewari (secretaries of Haryana and Delhi state committees of CPI(M) respectively), Sehba Farooqui, Inderjit Singh, Abdul Salam, Mubarak Khan and Danish Khan and Gangeswar.

Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill 2016: BEFI Opposes Draconian FRDI Bill

THE Bank Employees Federation of India, in a statement issued on the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill 2016 (FRDI) cleared by the union cabinet on June 14, 2017, said that this bill is a piece of legislation for overnight closure of banks impelling doom for crores of depositors, not to speak of lakhs of bank employees. The statement was issued on June 29.
