CPI(M) Assam State Conference Calls for Building up Left-Democratic Alternative

THE three-day 22nd Assam state conference of the CPI(M) concluded at Silpagram in Guwahati on February 6, with a clarion call to intensify the struggle against neo-liberal economic policies and the politics of communal divide being pursued by the present ruling dispensation both at the centre and in the state, and to build up a Left-democratic alternative. The conference started with a huge public rally on February 4 at Sonaram H S School ground. More than 15,000 people belonging to different religious, linguistic and ethnic groups attended the rally.

THE 25th state conference of the CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh state committee was held in Bhimavaram from February 10-12, 2018 in a spirited manner.

Before the inaugural session of the conference, Party senior leader and former MLA, Rudraraju Satyanarayana Raju hoisted the Red flag in Simhadri Siva Reddy hall at Parsa Satyanarayana Nagar (conference venue) and all the delegates, observers paid homage to the martyrs.

Having been in power in the state continuously for the last 25 years, the document is brimming with information about a wide range of issues, from tackling separatist violence to creating employment through agricultural modernisation and industrialisation, from increasing literacy and reducing dropout rates to spread of healthcare services, from successful attempts to build harmony among various ethnic groups to paying attention to needs of underprivileged tribals, dalit communities and minorities.

Union Budget Anti-People and Deceptive

VARIOUS mass and class organisations have denounced the union budget for 2018-19, placed in parliament by finance minister Arun Jaitley on February 1, as “anti-people, anti-worker and deceptive”. In the last full budget of the NDA government before the 2019 general elections, the finance minister resorted to lies and deceit through high rhetoric and overestimated projections.

SFI Condemns Assault on Kashmiri Students

THE central executive committee of SFI, in a statement issued on February 4, has condemned in the strongest possible words the assault of two Kashmiri students by a mob of people in Mahendargarh, Haryana. These students who belong to the minority community had gone to offer Friday prayers. While returning when they were crossing market area they were mercilessly beaten up with sticks, bricks and helmet. What is more shocking is that none of people there or the passersby came to their rescue. The police even refused to register an FIR in the case.

PUNJAB AND HARYANA: Peasant Organisations Hold Kisan Mukti Sammelan

PEASANT organisations from Punjab and Haryana held a ‘Kisan Mukti Sammelan’ at Bhakna Bhawan, in Chandigarh on February 4, 2018 under the banner of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) to discuss farm suicides and find out ways to help the peasants in distress.

Convenor of the AIKSCC, VM Singh demanded that the government should fulfill its promise of implementing the Swaminathan Commission’s report which was submitted to the government in 2006 and was to be implemented in 2007.
