CPI(M) Unleashes Election Campaign in Ujiarpur

Arun Kumar Mishra

ON APRIL 8, Ajay Kumar, the CPI(M) candidate filed his nomination paper from the Ujiarpur parliamentary seat. Thousands of people gathered on that day in support of the CPI(M) candidate at the district collectorate. Hannan Mollah , CPI(M) Polit Bureau member was also present.

A ‘nomination march’ was organised from the Government Middle School campus to the collectorate in which thousands of people carrying red flags , bearing the scorching sun and the heat marched raising slogans in favour of CPI(M) and the candidate.

Hannan Mollah in his panegyric speech asked the people to defeat the BJP as it has failed to keep up to the promises it made to the people in 2014. He termed the BJP as a party of ‘jumlas’ which has cheated the youth, women, kisans, workers and common people of the country. Those who raise questions to the BJP leaders are termed as anti-nationals, Hannan pointed out. He said that today the only slogan that should be championed is ‘to defeat the BJP and save the integrity of India’.

Awadhesh Kumar, state secretary of Bihar CPI(M) state committee appealed to the people to elect the Left candidates from the state. He said the so called ‘mahagathbandan’ against the BJP has lost its credibility owing to absence of Left in it. However, the Left will still support them in rest of the constituencies, other than that contested by the Left, showing the wisdom of the Left parties. The primary reason to support them is that the Left wants to maximize the pooling of anti-BJP votes. He said the Party will support Kanhaiya Kumar, CPI candidate from Begusarai, and CPI(ML) candidates from Ara and Siwan. He appealed to the people to elect Left candidates from these constituencies. The meeting was presided over by Manoj Kumar Gupta.

Kanahiya also addressed the meeting in favour of Ajay Kumar. He termed the present Lok Sabha election as one of the most important elections in the history of independent India. He said this election is between Modi and the people of India. It is the responsibility of the people, to, not just defend their economic rights, like employment and basic economic needs, but also to ensure that the secular and democratic values as enshrined in the constitution of India remain. Modi in his utter failure in the filed of performance on almost all fronts of governance is shifting the goalpost of the election to slogans of ultra nationalism. We must reverse this trend and then Modi can be defeated. He appealed the people to vote for Ajay Kumar from Ujiarpur.

On April 9, Kanahiya Kumar filed his nomination papers from Begusarai and Hannan Mollah, Awadesh Kumar and other CPI(M) leaders also participated in his nomination rally.

The first phase of mass contact programme in Ujiarpur was finished by April 8. Out of 240 panchayats spread in 6 assembly segments, Ajay Kumar was able to reach out to 180 panchayats. On April 13, a central office of election campaign was inaugurated in Dalsinghsarai. The state secretariat members of the Party have reached Ujiarpur for further strengthening the election campaign.

There is an evident resentment against the Modi government and the sitting MP Nityanand Rai amongst the people. Upendra Kushwaha, the candidate of the ‘mahagathbandan’ is also not trusted by the people owing to his past history of switching sides. This has led to a big shift in support of people to Ajay Kumar as some of the former MLAs from RJD have openly declared their support for the CPI(M) candidate.

There is strong unity amongst the Left parties in Bihar. The CPI(ML), CPI and CPI(M) activists are working in tandem and unity in favour of Ajay Kumar and other Left nominees.

Ujiarpur has been a strong base of the CPI(M). Twenty six brave comrades have become martyrs in this region in the past owing to struggles and other movements of the people. Amongst them include Comrade Ramnath Mahato, astounding leader of agricultural workers and the Party. Because of these struggles and glorious sacrifices of the comrades, Ramdev Verma was elected MLA four times from Vibhutipur. The Party is advancing with strong determination.
