Kerala: CM Seeks report on Arrests

THE state secretariat of the CPI(M) on November 5 issued a statement and stated that the anti government campaigns related to the arrest of two youths in Kozhikode is politically motivated. The CPI(M) has been opposing the imposition of UAPA act on the arrested youths. When the central government passed the UAPA bill, the CPI(M) had opposed it tooth and nail. The chief minister has already sought the report from the police on Kozhikode arrest. When LDF came to power, the CPI(M), has since then opposed the imposition of UAPA in every such incident.

Bihar: AIDWA State Conference

THE 12th state conference of Bihar AIDWA was held on October 19-20 at Madehpura Town Hall. The conference called for launching struggles against patriarchy, communalism, for joint land titles to women, land for housing to the poor and against casteist and obscurantist ideologies prevalent in the country.

AIAWU Convention: Save Demand based MNREGA

ALL India convention on MNREGA was organised by AIAWU on November 4, 2019 in Mavlankar Hall, New Delhi. The meeting was presided over by S Thirunavukkarasu, B Venkat, Suneet Chopra, Susan Kodi, and Amiyo Patra. More than 520 delegates from 12 states attended the convention. Brinda Karat, member Polit Bureau CPI(M), inaugurated the convention. She underlined the importance of the land issue and land reforms in the present scenario and congratulated AIAWU for their struggles on the land question.

India Opting out of RCEP is a Big Victory for Peasants & Workers

INDIA decided to opt out of the RCEP on November 4, 2019 in a significant victory for the peasants and workers. The All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued by on November 5, has said that this is clearly a result of the immense pressure built by massive united protests of peasants and workers across the country.

Modi Retreats from RCEP

THE opposition of kisan and democratic movements forced Narendra Modi to beat a retreat on the question of signing Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement. For the last several years, the Modi government was engaged in discussing on this agreement.

Comrade Zahoor Siddiqui

COMRADE Zahoor Siddiqui, veteran communist and leader of the teachers’ movement in Delhi, passed away in Aligarh on November 3. He was 80 years old. Zahoor Siddiqui was amongst the first batch of members of the CPI(M) in Delhi. He became a member of the regional committee of the CPI(M) whose area of work included Delhi, Haryana and Western UP. Later when the Delhi state committee of the Party was formed in 1977, he became a member of the secretariat of the state committee.

M N Roy: Pioneering Communist

MANABENDRA Nath Roy, popularly known as M N Roy, was an important figure in the early days of the Communist movement in India. Roy was the initiator of the formation of the Communist Party in Tashkent in October 1920. He played a pioneering role in spreading Marxist ideas and the role of a Communist Party amongst the fledgling Communist groups which emerged in India from 1921 onwards.
