Delhi: Left Parties Hold Dharna against Communal Offensive of the RSS-BJP

HUNDREDS of people participated in the protest dharna organised by the Delhi state committees of CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML), RSP and AIFB on April 28 at Jantar Mantar against the continuing divisive communal offensive of the RSS-BJP. The targeted demolition drive in Jahangirpuri by the BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) was part and parcel of the nefarious design to create communal tensions in the area.

The dharna was addressed by Sitaram Yechury, general secretary, CPI(M), Brinda Karat, Polit Bureau Member of CPI(M),  Amarjeet Kaur, national secretary of CPI, Kavita Krishnan, Polit Bureau member of CPI (ML)-Liberation and other leaders of the Left parties.

Speakers underlined that the demolition drive in Jahangirpuri was a continuation of the earlier attempt of the Hindutva forces to disrupt the communal harmony in the area through armed procession in the name of Hanuman Jayanti. What are being bulldozed are not merely the meagre belongings of the working class families, but the basic ethos of Indian democracy.

Sitaram Yechury in his address emphasised that communal tactics are being employed by the ruling party to distract people's attention from the failure of government in multiple spheres including the unabating price rise and unemployment. He said that the struggle against communalism must go hand in hand with the intensified struggles on the everyday issues of the people.

The dharna reiterated the resolve to intensify the struggle against communalism and in defence of people's unity, life and livelihoods.
