THE cat, at last, has come out of the bag. Devendra Fadnavis, ever eager to come back to power, by hook or crook, finally reached the doorstep of the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The gentleman sent from above occupying the gubernatorial seat, to come in handy whenever the RSS bosses wished, has been more eager for the former’s comeback than the come-backer himself.

AT the call of various Left youth and students' organisations, protests were conducted across the country against the recently announced Agnipath scheme and unemployment in the country. Unemployment in the country is rising day by day while the vacancies in different central government offices have remained vacant for many years. It is at this juncture that the central government announced the Agnipath scheme which shattered the dreams of millions of young people in the country who were undergoing training for years for joining the army.

ON June 20, 2022, the AIKS Nashik district council held a massive 25,000-strong rally on the divisional commissioner's office at Nashik. Thousands of adivasi peasants had come from all 15 tehsils of the district. They included thousands of women and youth.

The call for this rally had been given at the AIKS Martyrs' Day public meeting of 10,000 peasants held on June 12 at Umbarthan in Surgana tehsil of Nashik district (covered in these columns earlier). 

THE 110th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) was held from May 27 to June 11, 2022, in Geneva, Switzerland. It established six committees based on the standing and technical items adopted. 

The report of the committee of experts on the application of conventions and recommendations covers numerous matters related to the application of ILO standards in which there is some open indictment against India’s poor record on labour inspection.

ALL India Kisan Sabha and P Sundarayya Memorial Trust jointly organised an all-India meeting and a public seminar of coffee farmers on June 11-12, 2022, at Virajpet, Karnataka. Leaders of coffee farmers from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka along with the trade union leaders from the plantation sector and various experts from the Coffee Board of India, coffee industry and research institutions converged to discuss the challenges and possibilities in the coffee sector.
