JHARKHAND: Karl Marx’s Bicentennial Birth Anniversary Celebration

A STATE-level event to mark the bicentennial birth anniversary of Karl Marx was organised in the steel city of Jamshedpur on January 21. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat was the main speaker. The Michel John Auditorium packed to its capacity with hundreds of industrial workers, peasants, employees, students, youth, women and intellectuals.

Chemplast Workers Chastised For Joining All India Strike, Stand Ground

SANMAR Group, Chemplast (Plant III) in Mettur, Salem district, Tamil Nadu, dismissed 94 workers for joining the general strike call given by trade unions on January 8 and 9. Recently, 100 workers of the Plant had joined the CITU and despite serving prior strike notice to the management, 94 of them were dismissed and were obstructed from entering the Plant on January 10.Chemplast had many examples of worst industrial relations and intolerance towards trade union activities in the past.

That was during the Congress-TUJS coalition government.  Hundreds of them from Thalchharra, Rajdhar, Malidhar, Natinmanu or his own village Gobindabarri either died because of starvation or fled the village. WEST BENGAL: Two-day March of Determination in Terror Zone

IN another show of defiance, thousands of people joined a two day march in one of the worst terrorised areas of West Bengal. With TMC coming to power in 2011, the entire stretch of Arambagh-Tarakeswar-Goghat in Hooghly district, has turned into terror zone. The area in Hooghly-Bankura border witnessed series of attacks on Left activists and supporters. Almost all CPI(M) and Left parties offices were forcibly closed. Many such offices were seized by the ruling party. Hundreds of houses were attacked and a large number of Left cadres and supporters were forced to leave their living places.
