Delhi: Convention is Support of Farmers

ON January 16, a convention by political parties in Delhi was held at Constitution Club (Annexe) in support of the 52-day farmer’s struggle at various venues along the Delhi border. The convention was presided by K M Tiwari  from CPI(M), Dinesh Varshney (CPI), Ravi Rai (CPI-ML), Santosh Kumar (CGPI), Shatrujeet (RSP) and Gaurav (AIFB). Sitaram Yechury, Brinda Karat from CPI(M), K Narayana (CPI), Kavita Krishnan (CPI-ML), R S Dagar (RSP), Anita Rai Pawar (AIFB), and Prakash Rao (CGPI) spoke at the occasion.

Punjab: Farmers’ Movement Against Agricultural Laws

THE government of India passed Farm Ordinances on June 5, 2020, regarding agricultural reforms and then passed the Acts in September in the Parliament on September 22, 2020. Questions are also being raised about the legality of these laws as agricultural production comes under the preview the state governments according to State List of the Indian Constitution. The movement against these laws had started in Punjab since June 2020.

Nationwide Farmers Struggle Set to Intensify on Republic Day

THE unprecedented nationwide farmers struggle led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha(SKM) is set to greatly intensify as it completes two months on Republic Day, January 26, 2021. The ‘kisan parade’ in the form of a huge tractor march on the Outer Ring Road to Delhi will undoubtedly be the most massive form of farmers’ resistance since independence. Thousands of Women Lead Protests on Mahila Kisan Divas

THERE was massive and enthusiastic participation of thousands of women all across the country on Mahila Kisan Divas on January 18. Six national women’s organisations – All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA), Pragatisheel Mahila Sangathan (PMS), All India Agragami Mahila Samiti (AIAMS) and All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS) had decided to hold joint protests on January 18 to express solidarity with the farmers’ struggle.

AP: Adani Management Victimises Krishnapatnam Port Workers

THE Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL) management has been found to be violating labour laws. This is the second biggest industry in AP after the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. CITU affiliated union had raised voice against this and made a complaint to the labour department. On December 31, 2020, in a joint meeting on our union’s complaint, the principal secretary of labour department of AP, Udaya Lakshmi noted that it is shameful for the state of Andhra Pradesh that labour laws are not implemented in Krishnapatnam Port (KPCL).

UP: Delegation of Anganwadi Visit Badaun and Met the Victims Family

JANUARY 8, a delegation of the All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers(AIFAWH) -CITU,  met the family of the anganwadi helper who was gang-raped and murdered in a temple in Badaun, UP. The delegation comprised A R Sindhu, president and Usharani, general secretary of AIFAWH, along with UP anganwadi union president, Veena Gupta, general secretary, Chaman Ara and Niger Parveen, an advocate and activist of CITU.

Telangana: Bus Jatha to Educate Farmers and People

DEMANDING repeal of three farm laws, and withdrawal of proposed 2003 Electricity (Amendment) Bill, the Telangana Rythu Sangham (Farmers Association) is organising a bus jatha in Telangana from January 1st to February 1, 2021. From November 26th, lakhs of farmers and people are agitating in Delhi demanding the repeal of farm laws. In support of farmers agitation, the Telangana Rythu Sangham,  to educate farmers and people and to explain the dangers of the farm laws, has started the bus jatha.

Supreme Court stays Farm Laws, but Appoints Committee of Govt Men

THE Supreme Court of India (SC), after hearing a clutch of petitions on the farmers’ struggle, but completely ignoring the ones that challenged the very constitutionality of the three Farm Laws criticized the central government for its handling of the farmers' struggle on January 11 and suspended the implementation of the Farm Laws ‘until further notice’ on January 12.

Haryana: Police Action on Farmers in Karnal village Condemned

THE Haryana chapter of All India Kisan Sangharsh Co-ordination Committee(AIKSCC) has condemned the police action on farmers who had assembled to peacefully register their opposition to a bogus mahapanchayat at Kaimla village of Karnal in support of anti-farmer laws being imposed in dictatorial way by the Modi regime. The police let loose terror on January 10.
