MAHA: AIKS Rally Demands Crop Insurance Compensation

On August 30, thousands of peasants from the backward Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of Maharashtra, held an impressive rally at the State Agricultural Commissioner's office at Pune. They were demanding crop insurance compensation worth crores of rupees to lakhs of peasants who had paid their premium under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif season 2020, had suffered tremendous crop losses due to excessive rains, but had not received any compensation at all from crop insurance companies.

SWATI Awasthi, a Class 10 student of Saraswati Vidya Mandir in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh went through extreme mental stress and lost her life on August 5, due to emotional trauma. The school principal had humiliated her a lot for not paying the fees and also refused to allow her to appear in the upcoming quarterly examinations.All her pleas went unheeded.  She could not cope with her plight and returned home and fell unconscious.

THOUSANDS of people participated in the 10-kilometre human chain along the National Highway-16 from Aganampudi to Akkireddypalem in Visakhapatnam on August 29 to protest Modi government’s move of strategic sale of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. In response to the call given by the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee, which is spearheading the agitation, hundreds of Steel plant workers, displaced persons and their family members, and the general public joined hands to form the human chain.The participants held placards and stood on one side of the highway from 8 am to 10 am.

Haryana: Judicial Probe Needed in Leakage of Exam Papers

SFI, DYFI, and Janwadi Mahila Samiti staged a protest at the office of the Haryana Staff Selection Commissioner, Panchkula on August 20, against repeated leakage of the selection examination papers in the state.The protesters were led by DYFI state president Shahnawaz, general secretary Naresh, SFI state vice president Arjun, and Manjeet, Janwadi Mahila Samiti general secretary Savita, and treasurer Rajkumari.
