Janapaksha Yatra: Full of Sound and Fury, Signifying Nothing but Mockery

THANKS to the geography of Kerala, yatras organised by various political parties from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram touch almost all districts in a straight line. Many leaders had organised yatras (processions) in the past in order to propagate their respective ideologies. But a yatra, christened as Janapaksha Yatra, organised and led by state Congress president V M Sudheeran to propagate among others the need of prohibition in the state not only failed to make an impact but it also became a laughing stock to all including Congress men and women.

IAS Officer Close to Kerala CM Suspended For Possessing Disproportionate Assets

EXPOSING the unhindered corrupt practices in both political and bureaucratic levels in Kerala, the secretary of Public Works Department and senior IAS officer T O Sooraj has been suspended from the service. Action against Sooraj, known to be very close to the Chief Minister and several others including industries minister P K Kunjalikkutty, was taken after vigilance raids unearthed huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

CPI(M) to Intensify Struggle against Anti-People Policies of UDF in Kerala

THE CPI(M) Kerala state committee has decided to intensify the struggle against the UDF government’s anti-people measures by rallying more and more people. The Party would also intervene in the agriculture sector with a modern and timely developmental outlook, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said in a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on November 17.

People Shows Determination in Party-led ‘Clean Kerala Drive’

THE Communist Movement in Kerala, which has a glorious history of spearheading pro-people movements like land reforms, total literacy mission and people’s planning programme, kick-started another people’s movement (Shuchitwa Keralam) to save the masses from the menace of garbage in the state. CPI (M) workers are leading the people from all walks of life to wipe out the waste and garbage in cities and villages through a decentralised system. Members and leaders from other parties also joined the programme in various districts of the state.

M V Raghavan Passes Away

FORMER minister and Communist Marxist Party (CMP) general secretary M V Raghavan passed away on November 9 at Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur. M V Raghavan, popularly known as MVR, was undergoing treatment for prolonged illness. He was 81.

A firebrand CPI(M) leader, MVR was expelled from the Party in 1986, after which he formed CMP. He served as an MLA and minister for several tenures.

He is survived by wife Janaki and two sons and two daughters.

RSS Goons Kill DYFI Worker in Kasaragod

A DYFI worker has been brutally killed by RSS goons at Kumbala village in Kerala’s Kasaragod district. The incident took place around 5 pm on October 27 when 37-year-old Murali, a member of DYFI Shatipallam unit committee, was riding a motorbike, along with his friend Manjunath. The RSS goons, led by Sharat, stopped the motorcycle and stabbed him repeatedly to death. This was the second attempt on Murali’s life.Murali, a resident of Shantipallam in Kumbala, was attacked by the RSS goons near Apsara Mill area near Sithamgoli.

Rajnath Denounces Political Killings, but Accepts Headgear from RSS Cadre Accused of CPI(M) Worker’s Murder

UNION home minister Rajnath Singh sparked a controversy during his two-day visit to Kerala, by gleefully accepting a headgear from RSS cadre Santhosh, a notorious criminal in Thiruvananthapuram and the first accused in the case of 2008 murder of CPI(M) worker V V Vishnukumar. Notwithstanding the fact that Singh called for ending the menace of political violence and killings, he adorned a headgear from the murder accused on his September 27 visit to the famous Sri Padmanabhaswami Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

Steep hike in taxes announced in Kerala

IN a surprising move, the Kerala cabinet has decided to impose a huge hike in taxes, service charge and new rate of water charge. This hike is imposed in the pretext of overcoming the severe economic crisis the state faces. The new burden of Rs 3,000 crore will be put on the people through these new taxes. The burden may go up to Rs 4,000 crore as the additional taxes come. New taxes are in addition to Rs 5,614 crore tax imposed by the UDF government in the past three years.
