KERALA: CPI(M) Collects 2.06 crore For Chennai Flood Relief

AT the call of the CPI(M) Kerala state committee, the people of Kerala have generously contributed Rs 2,06,36,243 for the Chennai flood relief fund. CPI(M) workers all over Kerala reached out to the people on December 9 to collect the fund. The state committee has expressed gratitude to the people for their solidarity to the flood victims in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.

DYFI Marches Ahead to Safeguard the Secular Fabric of Kerala

TENS and thousands of white clad young men and women have been marching on each street of Kerala to reach the people in every nook and corner to spread the message to re-build the new Kerala. Two jathas named as Secular March started from the two ends of the state and are scheduled to culminate in a massive youth rally at Ernakulam on December 5.

In the backdrop of all communal and casteist forces ganging up with an evil design to destroy the secular fabric of Kerala society, the main demand raised by the Secular March is not to turn Kerala into a lunatic asylum.

Bar Bribery Scam: Kerala Finance Minister K M Mani Resigns

FINALLY, Kerala finance and law minister K M Mani has resigned. As Kerala’s longest serving MLA, who has never lost an assembly election and has been a minister for record 13 times, Mani had repeatedly rubbished demands for his resignation after bribery allegations first surfaced one year ago. The allegation was that he took a huge bribe to defer the new policy decisions on closure of all bars in the state, other than those attached to five star hotels. But in November 9, Kerala High Court made scathing attacks against the minister.

LDF Wins Mayoral Post in 5 of 6 Corporations

THE CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won elections to the mayoral post in five of the six corporations in Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kannur are the corporations where LDF has won, while Congress won the mayoral post in Kochi Corporation. All five mayors of LDF are from CPI(M). LDF won the chairperson's post in 43 of 86 municipalities in the state. UDF won in 38 municipalities, and BJP and the Development Front bagged one each.

LDF Victory in Kerala

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) has issued the following statement on November 07, 2015.

THE CPI(M) congratulates the people of Kerala for having voted the LDF to victory in the elections to the local bodies. This verdict is a popular rejection of the UDF government’s anti-people record and corruption. The people have also rebuffed the communal politics of the BJP and its efforts to rally leaders of caste-based organisations.

Bribery Case: Trouble Mounts for Mani, Court Orders Further Probe

IN a major setback to the UDF government just before the three-tier panchayat elections in the state, a special anti-corruption court on October 29 ordered further investigation into allegations that finance minister K M Mani took Rs 25 lakh bribe in two installments from office-bearers of the Kerala Bar Hotels Association (KBHA). Judge John K Illikkadan observed that there was sufficient material for making out a prima facie case against Mani and directed investigating officer R Sukesan to conduct further probe.

KERALA: On Local Body Elections

THE Pattom ward in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has a story to tell. Here a friendly contest has been taking place between the Congress candidate and Kerala Congress (Mani) nominee.  KPCC president VM Sudheeran resides and has a vote in this ward itself. This shows the bad predicament that the Congress led UDF has been facing in the state in the local body election scheduled to be held on November 2 and 5.  During the seat sharing discussion, the district Congress committee had set aside the ward for KC(M).

Protest against Delhi Police Raid on Kerala Bhawan

THE efforts of the Hindu fundamentalist forces to do cultural policing in the name of cow-protection faced a major setback on in Delhi after Kerala House's staff-run restaurant, Smrudhi, re-introduced beef on their menu.
The Delhi Police, which acted on the basis of 'information received over phone that cow meat is served in the restaurant' and sent a team to raid the place was caught on the wrong foot for dancing to the tune of fundamentalist forces.
