AIDWA Observes International Women’s Day

MARCH 8, 2022 - 112 years of a long and arduous struggle for women’s rights. International Women’s Day (IWD) is observed all over the world to reiterate the struggle for equality, justice and a violence free life for women. The last two years have seen an intensification of exploitation. The profits of the corporate world are soaring while the masses are living in the worst conditions of deprivation. The Modi-led BJP-RSS government has ruthlessly pursued policies which have increased insecurity in the lives of the majority of Indians.

Women Fight Price Rise

THOUSANDS of women all over the country responded to the call by the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and came out on the roads on November 16, 2021, in protest against the uncontrolled price hikes, and condemned the failure of the BJP-RSS regime in providing relief to crores of the poor.

Withdraw FIRs against Journalists: AIDWA

THE All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on November 16, expressed solidarity with journalists Samriddhi K Sakunia and Swarna Jha. They were first detained in Assam and then taken to Tripura and arrested. Both the women journalists had gone to cover communal violence in the Tripura. It has been reported in the media that they were detained for their social media posts about the communal violence. Two FIRs have been filed against them. The journalists have now been released on bail.

Proposed Population Control Legislation Violation of Human Rights

WOMEN'S groups and networks, health experts and concerned individuals from civil society, on July 19, have submitted a memorandum to the President of India, through an email, raising concerns and opposing the draft Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization and Welfare) Bill, 2021.

The draft bill has been developed by the State Law Commission. The provisions include barring persons with more than two children from contesting municipal and panchayat elections, disqualifying from government jobs, disincentives in education, health and other social security spheres.
