CPI(M) Expresses Concern Over Politically Motivated Appointments

THE Delhi State Committee of CPI(M), in a statement issued on June 1 noted that the Modi government has decided to appoint former Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which is a constitutional post with a term of five years. Bassi was directly involved in the police action on the JNU students in February and later on was also seen giving unsubstantiated statements claiming JNU to be a den of anti-national activities.

DELHI: CPI(M) Condemns Termination of SSA Teachers

THE Delhi state committee of the CPI(M), in a statement issued on April 12, has condemned the termination of services by the AAP state government of thousands of teachers working under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). The AAP is blaming de-recognition of these teachers by the MHRD and stoppage of central funds for the SSA for this situation. The BJP on the other hand denies these accusations and blames the AAP for using the teachers as a pawn in their fight against the BJP.

Comrade Major Jaipal Singh’s Birth Centenary

CPI(M) Delhi observed the legendary communist Comrade Major Jaipal Singh’s birth centenary on February 11, 2016. The well-attended meeting in Constitution Club was addressed by CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat, Central Secretariat member Joginder Sharma and Central Committee member Pushpinder Singh Grewal. KM Tiwari, secretary, Delhi presided over the meeting.

Delhi State Conference of SFI Concludes Successfully

THE 19th Delhi state conference of SFI was concluded successfully on January 15-16 in Comrade Vijendra Sharma Manch and Martyr Comrade Shakeel Ahmad Baksh Hall. The hall of the conference was named after Shakeel Ahmad Baksh who was killed when he intervened in a case of eve teasing in Jamia in 1996. Comrade Vijendra’s name needs no introduction for anyone in students’ and teachers’ movement.A rally and public meeting was organised on January 15,  in North Campus, Delhi University. This rally was also joined by the flag march of 15th all India conference that has started from Shimla.

DELHI: CPI(M) Delegation Meets LG

A SEVEN member delegation of CPI(M), Delhi state committee, led by Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat met the lieutenant governor of Delhi on January 14. The delegation comprising Delhi secretary KM Tiwari, South District secretary Jagdish Chand Sharma, Pappu Bhardwaj, Farooq Khan, Swaran Singh and Nanu Prasad raised issues related to Badarpur region. These include removing the stay on declaring Mithapur and Jaitpur wards as ‘F’ zone instead of the ‘O’ zone of Delhi’s Master Plan. The delegation urged upon the LG to reverse this decision.

Founding Conference of Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch (Delhi-NCR) Held

THE founding conference of Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch (Delhi-NCR) was held on November 29, 2015.

Dr Asim Bala, co-convener of the All India DSMM inaugurated the conference by garlanding the picture of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. A three-member presidium consisting of Brahmjeet Singh, Rampal and Sonia Verma was elected to conduct the proceedings. A one member-credentials committee consisting of Maimoona Mollah and a one member-minutes committee consisting of Puran Chand was elected as well.

DELHI: CPI(M) Delegation Meets CM

A CPI(M) delegation met the chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal on October 21 and discussed some immediate and urgent issues. The delegation led by Brinda Karat, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member,  comprised of state secretary KM Tiwari, and secretariat members Asha Sharma, Anurag Saxena, Ravindranathan, Neelgagan Singh and Maya.The delegation pointed out disturbing features in some areas in south, north and east Delhi where some platforms of Ramlila celebrations were being misused to promote communal slogans. It asked for political vigilance.
