AIDWA State Conference calls for Building Struggles for Women’s empowerment

THE 13th Andhra Pradesh (AP) AIDWA conference was held successfully in Vijayawada on September 26-28, 2014. Prior to the delegate session, on September 26 a massive public meeting was held in Vijayawada town. The public meeting was presided over by AIDWA AP state president Karusala Subbaravamma. Brinda Karat national leader of AIDWA addressing the public meeting questioned whether we lived in a civilised country in view of deteriorating levels of women’s security where very young girls to very old women were being sexually attacked.

'RSS is Running the Modi Govt'

THE BJP-led central government is being run by the RSS, said Prakash Karat addressing a public meeting organised by the AP state committee in Kurnool as part of the Makineni Basavapuniah centenary observance on 03rd July. Speaking on the current political situation, Karat said that the one month rule of the Modi government has shown its anti-people, pro-corporate character vividly. He cited the hike in railway fares and freight rates affecting common people as one example.

Left Must Prepare People for Struggles

PRAKASH KARAT DELIVERS SUNDARAYYA MEMORIAL LECTURE
WITH the ascent to power by RSS-backed Narendra Modi, the people of the country will be subjected to twin-pronged attack – intensified pursuit of neo-liberal reforms and heightened communalisation of society resulting in division of people. The task before the Left today is to rally the people against neo-liberal policies and prepare the people for struggles while safeguarding their unity.

Charges against CPI(M) are Baseless

CPI secretary K Narayana had in a press conference on May 14 (Wednesday) charged that CPI(M) Telangana state secretary Thammineni Veerabhadram struck a deal with YSRCP to ensure that he (Narayana) is defeated in Khammam Lok Sabha seat. He said Thammineni similarly ensured the defeat of CPI leader Puvada Nageshwara Rao earlier also in the same seat.
He launched a diatribe against CPI(M) on its choices of supporting YSRCP, TRS, JSP in different regions.
Below is the text of CPI(M)Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu's reaction to Narayana's charges:

High Stakes Election in Andhra Pradesh

THE CPI(M) which is contesting two Lok Sabha seats (Araku and Tirupati) and 33 assembly seats has undertaken intensive campaigning meeting the people. Its top leaders including Polit Bureau members Sitaram Yechury, Brinda Karat, B V Raghavulu, Central Secretariat member V Sreenivasa Rao, CC member K Hemalatha, J&K state secretary Mohd Yusuf Tarigami, Tripura LF ministers Jitendra Choudhary and others campaigned for CPI(M) candidates.

Protest against Chundur Verdict

SEVERAL dalit and other mass organisations angrily protested the Andhra Pradesh High Court judgement exonerating all 21 accused in the massacre of dalits in Chundur village of Guntur district in 1991. Holding a dharna in front of the Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad on April 23, they slammed the judgement as anti-dalit. John Wesley, secretary of Struggle Committee against Caste Discrimination, KVPS, said that it appeared that the courts are following Manu smriti rather than IPC while deciding such cases.

Election Scenario in Telangana and AP

THE division of Andhra Pradesh into two states -- Telangana and Andhra Pradesh -- will happen formally on June 2. Therefore elections to state assembly and Lok Sabha are taking place in the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh itself. But that is only technical in sense. Politically the electoral scene is markedly different in both the regions. If Congress party is vying for power in Telangana region, it is battling for life in Seemandhra region (the area comprising residual Andhra Pradesh), hardly able to find candidates to field on its behalf.
