Charges against CPI(M) are Baseless

CPI secretary K Narayana had in a press conference on May 14 (Wednesday) charged that CPI(M) Telangana state secretary Thammineni Veerabhadram struck a deal with YSRCP to ensure that he (Narayana) is defeated in Khammam Lok Sabha seat. He said Thammineni similarly ensured the defeat of CPI leader Puvada Nageshwara Rao earlier also in the same seat. He launched a diatribe against CPI(M) on its choices of supporting YSRCP, TRS, JSP in different regions. Below is the text of CPI(M)Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu's reaction to Narayana's charges: THE charges made by Narayana are baseless. We had extended support to YSRCP, TRS, JSP and Mahajan Socialist Party in various places based on our national electoral tactic of defeating the Congress and the BJP. We had announced our support publicly much earlier. The CPI, straying away from the all India line of Left parties, extended support to Congress. After deviating from the political line, to now make baseless and imagined charges is not a trait of a communist. It must be realised that such talk will only dent the respect for CPI as a party.  There was no electoral adjustment between CPI and CPI(M) in the state. The CPI fielded candidates in 13 seats where CPI(M) fought. Differences emerged between the two parties because the CPI did not remain committed to Left parties’ political line. Narayana has made cheap remarks and we don’t want to react to them and provide entertainment to the media and people. We can’t speak in an undignified manner.  Despite having adjustment with JSP in Seemanadhra, the CPI(M) conveyed to that party that we would support CPI only in seats where they are contesting. Narayana stated that the CPI(M) consciously worked to ensure his defeat in the elections. If they have consciously tied up with Congress, we will say, not once but a hundred times, that they must be defeated.
