'CM Status to Chandrababu, but no Special Status to AP' says Raghavulu

OWING to the division of state, Chandrababu Naidu has got the chief ministerial status, but the state of Andhra Pradesh had not yet got the special status, remarked BV Raghavulu, Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M), satirically while addressing a public meeting in Bhimavaram on the occasion of the CPI(M) state committee meeting held from June 7-9, 2016.

ANDHRA PRADESH: Left Parties Hold Chalo Assembly

THE ‘Chalo Assembly’ call given by the Left parties of Andhra Pradesh state on March 15 demanding immediate solution to the issues of Rayalaseema districts evoked magnificent response. Fearing that this programme is going to be a huge success, the state government got arrested activists from Rayalaseema districts enroute to Hyderabad at various points. Still, thousands assembled at Indira Park, Hyderabad and participated in the meeting held by the Left parties and went as a rally to AP assembly, which is in session.

‘Bus Yatra’ Demanding Development of Rayalaseema

THE Left parties are the real alternative before our country and various demands of the people have to be realised through struggles, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said at the culmination of a ‘Bus Yatra’, by Left parties demanding development of Rayalaseema districts, at Kurnool on March 5.

The ‘bus yatra’ started in Chittoor on February 20 and traversed through Kadapa and Anantapur before ending with a public rally in Kurnool on March 5. CPI general secretary Sudhakara Reddy also addressed the meeting.

ANDHRA PRADESH: Movement against Indiscriminate Land Acquisition & Land Pooling

A PROTEST march "Chalo Vijayawada" was organised against indiscriminate land acquisition and land pooling by Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh. Thousands of activists from AP Rythu Sangham (affiliated to All India Kisan Sabha), Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham (affiliated to AIAWU), AIKS, BKMU, AIKMS and other organisations under the banner of Bhoo Hakkula Parirakshana Porata Samiti participated in the march. The movement had started with two bus jathas from Anantapur and Srikakulam districts till AP Capital Region. This massive protest was the culmination of this stage of struggle.

AP: Bus Yatra by Left Parties Seeking Development Of Rayalaseema Districts

THE Left parties, CPI(M) and CPI, have jointly embarked on a 14 day-long ‘Rayalaseema Bus Yatra’ to focus on the issues of backward region and with a demand that a comprehensive package of Rs1,000 crore be announced for the development of Rayalaseema districts.

The ‘Rayalaseema Bus Yatra’ was formally flagged off from Tirupati on February 20 by Prakash Karat, Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M) and CPI National Secretariat member K Narayana .

The yatra continues  up to March 5, during which period the Left party leaders plan to visit the nook and corner of the region.

Huge Rally Demands Closure of Liquor Shops in AP

A huge rally was held in Vijayawada, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, on January 8 by a broad united front formed to oppose the state’s liquor policy. The rally was followed by a seminar on the issue. The rally began at Hanumanta Rao Library and marched through several major thoroughfares of the city before culminating at Lenin Centre. The rally demanded withdrawal of the state government’s liquor policy, compensation for the kin of those died at an early age for liquor consumption and restricting the sale of liquor.
