Towards 34th Conference of AIKS

THE All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) is gearing up for its 34th Conference, after a long, eventful four years of struggle and advances. It will be held in Hisar, Haryana, from October 3-6. A public meeting on the first day at Old College Ground will be addressed by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. A total of 758 delegates from 25 states will attend the conference. Two delegates from UIS, the international farmers’ organisation, will also be present.The 27th conference of the AIKS was held in September 1992 at the same venue.

Farmers protest in more than 150 districts

THOUSANDS of peasants and farmers across the country holding the red flags of AIKS protested in over 150 districts at the call of the Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan to hold rallies/sit-in/jail bharo on August 9, on the seven main demands of farmers. Hundreds of peasants were detained in few places. In Rajasthan, this protest was held in 15 districts. In Haryana, there was protest at Rohtak commissioner’s office. In Himachal Pradesh, there was a central protest in Shimla in which thousands of peasants participated.

AIKS Calls for Intensified Struggles against Anti-farmer Policies

THE All India Kisan Sabha held its kisan council meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Aug 1-2. It has called upon the peasantry to be prepared for countrywide united struggle to achieve its two main demands of remunerative prices at 50 per cent above the cost of production for all crops with procurement centres and comprehensive loan waiver including private credit, to stop mounting peasant suicides.AIKS units will participate in the August 9 district rally/jail bharo call of the Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan and organise the campaign/ strike in many districts across the country.

Kisan Curfew in Rajasthan

THE peasantry in Rajasthan faces very difficult conditions not only due to the climate which swings from -3 degree centigrade to +50 degree centigrade but also because two thirds of the state is not irrigated. On top of this, the policies of the centre and the state have made the condition of the peasantry much worse. The government is not buying crops at the minimum support price.During these years, it is the falling prices of their produce rather than the famine, which has led to a grave crisis for the peasantry in the state.

Kisan Mukti Sansad Demands Loan Waiver & Remunerative Prices

THE All India Kisan Sabha activists holding red flags, along with farmers from across the country, participated in the Kisan Mukti Sansad at Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi on July 18. The Kisan Mukti Sansad was the culmination of the first phase of the Kisan Mukti Yatra which began on July 6 from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh where six farmers were killed in police firing onJune 6, 2017.After the Mandsaur firing, over 162 organisations came together to form the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC).

Intensify United Peasant Movement to Fight Agrarian CrisisTHE agrarian crisis will worsen in the near future if the Modi government does not change its policies, is the warning given by the third all India conference of Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan held in Ranchi on June 29-30, 2017. The resolution adopted by the delegates has observed that in the third year of the Modi government, the political situation in the country is akin to that of anti-emergency upsurge of peasants and workers that had positively influenced the defeat of Indira Gandhi Government in 1977.

IN a letter written to the chairperson of the National Commission for Women on June 22, Jharna Das Baidya, Rajya Sabha MP from Tripura, brought to her notice the most deplorable, unlawful and unscrupulous activity of Sushma Sahu, member of the National Commission for Women which is a statutory and prestigious autonomous body established under provision of the Indian constitution.Sushma Sahu while on an official visit to Tripura as a member of the National Commission for Women, was accommodated in the state guest house as a state guest on June 19, 2017.
