Homage to Comrade Sitaram Yechury

He died after battling a severe lung infection at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

AP: Floods and Heavy Rains Create Havoc

HEAVY rains in the catchment area caused the Krishna river and the Budameru rivulet to flood into Vijayawada city on the midnight of August 31. Heavy rainfall of about 30 cm locally, along with breaches to the banks of Budameru, led to the inundation of many low-lying areas such as Ajit Singh Nagar, Bhavanipuram, and others in Vijayawada city. Landslides occurred, resulting in the loss of four lives.

Manipur: Abdication of Responsibility

IT is sixteen months since the ethnic conflict erupted in Manipur.  Over 250 people have been killed and many more injured during the violence and 60,000 people remained displaced and living as refugees. The central government and the BJP state government have abjectly failed to address the basic issues, which led to the conflict and allowed the situation to develop where there has been a hardening of the ethnic divide.

IN a meeting held in Lucknow on August 26, 2024, various student and youth organisations, youth and student leaders, and social activists decided to launch an Employment Rights Campaign. The campaign will focus on issues such as imposing appropriate taxes on corporate houses and the super-rich, guaranteeing education, health, and employment, immediately filling vacant government posts in the country, and ensuring a dignified life for every person.

AIAWU Demands Relief for the Flood-affected Areas

INDIA has been struggling with severe floods and unprecedented heavy rainfall throughout 2024, resulting in significant loss of lives and extensive property damage. Reports indicate that thousands of lives have been lost due to the extreme weather conditions. The relentless rains have led to widespread devastation in states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Tripura, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. The floods have displaced millions, forcing them to evacuate their homes and seek shelter in temporary relief camps.
