Failing on Black Money, Foolish Attempt to Go Cashless

HAVING failed miserably on the black money front, the Modi government has been extolling the virtues of a cashless economy. What it seems to have forgotten is that cashless transactions require a digital  infrastructure, which we simply do not have. Without an infrastructure that makes mass scale digital transactions possible, coercive measures such as demonetisation or a penalty on cash transactions, will only boomerang.

Debate on Uniform Civil Code Ill-timed, Smacks of Politics: CPI(M) to Law Commission

THE CPI(M) has said that the Law Commission seeking opinion of political parties on the viability of a uniform civil code is ill-timed and smacks of a politically motivated agenda.     In a letter to Law Commission Chairman Justice B S Chauhan on December 17, 2016, Party general secretary Sitaram Yechury said, “At the outset, it is to be stated that the CPI(M) is constrained to observe that the exercise undertaken by the Law Commission to ‘engage’ in a ‘healthy conversation’ about the ‘viability of a uniform civil code’ smacks of a politically motivated agenda.

Cashless Economy is for Enriching Corporates

THE Modi government has demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes only to benefit the corporate sector and online companies (e-commerce) would earn more in India compared to the US, Canada and other countries as a result of building digital, cashless economy , said  BV Raghavulu, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member at a seminar organised by  Vijayawada central city committee of CPI(M) on January 11.Addressing the seminar held at  Makineni Basavapunniah Vignana Kendram, Raghavulu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was helping corporates with initiatives such as demonetisation.

Police Firing Killed villagers in W Bengal: TMC Government Exposed in Bhangar

THE Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal has got exposed in Bhangar, where two persons were killed in police firing while they were protesting against forcible land acquisition. The bloodshed came after months of protest by villagers in Bhangar in South 24 Parganas. From 2013, multi crop agricultural lands were forcibly acquired for a power grid station. Moreover the land loot was organised by mafias led by the ruling party leaders. Arabaul Islam, the notorious TMC gangster in the area, is the main culprit behind this land grab and ousting of peasants without compensation.
