Neo-Fascism and the Concept of the Nation

Certain features associated with neo-fascism have manifested themselves quite clearly during its ascendancy in India. These easily observable features are: the “othering” of a hapless minority and the generation of hatred against it among the majority; the unleashing of repression both by organs of the state as well as by neo-fascist thugs on members of this minority, on critics, on those belonging to the political opposition, on intellectuals, artists and others; and the open, unadulterated class rule by monopoly capital, especially by a newer segment of monopoly capital.

Please, Modi ji, Don’t Shed Tears for India's Women

An open letter to the prime minister who has betrayed the nation's women many a time.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji,

You had stated in your address to the nation on the women’s reservation issue that “the fight to give women power participation has been going on for decades…so many women have raised this subject before me. So many sisters have written letters to me explaining everything.”

PM’s Empty Rhetoric

After suffering a major setback in the Parliament on April 17, the Prime Minister committed a gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by misusing the public broadcaster, Doordarshan, to deliver his so-called address to the nation. The violation has been committed as Assembly Elections are underway in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, and the MCC is still very much in force.

CPI(M) Complains to Election Commission on Poll Code Violation by PM Modi

The Prime Minister has misused Doordarshan for political messaging through his broadcast on April 18, 2026, while the Model Code of Conduct is in force and elections to the state assemblies of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are nearing. Usage of the public broadcaster for political messaging during elections constitutes a violation of the MCC.

The CPI(M) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India and has sought initiation of proceedings against the PM and others for this violation.

CITU observes Jallianwala Bagh Day, calls for united anti-Imperialist movement

The inspiring milestone incident of Indian freedom struggle, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by British imperialism, was commemorated by the CITU at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, on April 13, 2026.

The programme, organised by the Amritsar district committee of CITU, started with paying tribute at the martyrs' memorial at Jallianwala Bagh. The leaders and cadres of CITU and AIKS marched to the memorial and payed floral tributes amidst anti-imperialist slogans.

The Week in Parliament

The extended three-day special sitting of Parliament’s Budget Session, beginning April 16, resulted in a major setback for the government, as the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, which aimed to link 33% women’s reservation with a new delimitation exercise by 2029, was defeated in the Lok Sabha. The Bill failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. Only 298 members voted in favor, while 230 opposed it.
