Stop Targetting of NDTV

THE Delhi Union of Journalists, in a statement issued on June 5 has expressed serious concern at the CBI raids on the homes of Prannoy Roy, executive chairperson of NDTV, ostensibly for defaulting on a bank loan.We note that the raids come directly after a primetime spat between NDTV executive editor Nidhi Razdan and BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra. Patra had accused the channel of being biased in its coverage and having an ‘agenda’. Razdan had objected strongly, telling him he could leave the show if he wished.

AIKS Protests against Killing of Farmers in Mandsaur

ACTIVISTS of organisations of peasants, students, women and social workers held a demonstration in front of Madhya Pradesh Bhawan at Chankyapuri in New Delhi to protest the cruel murder of eight farmers at Mandsaur in police firing by the BJP led state government.The Madhya Pradesh government consciously tried to break the unity of farmers by influencing sections of the leadership to withdraw the struggle; by not holding discussion with the leadership of the agitation on their genuine demands of debt waiver and remunerative price to crops.

MAHARASHTRA: State Bandh Hails Historic Farmers’ Strike

JUNE 5, 2017 was a red letter day in the history of Maharashtra. On that day, practically the whole of rural and semi-urban Maharashtra came to a halt as part of a Maharashtra Bandh to support the historic statewide farmers’ strike that began on June 1. The call had been given jointly by several peasant organisations, among whom the AIKS is playing a major role.Hundreds of towns, mandis, roads, shops and government offices were closed down by lakhs of farmers who came on to the streets in solidarity with the demands of the strike.

Palestinian Prisoners Hunger Strike

MORE than 1500 Palestinian political prisoners incarcerated for years in high security Israeli jails have been on an indefinite hunger strike from April 17. The date is observed every year as “Prisoners Day” by Palestinians in the occupied territories and Israel. More than 6500 Palestinian prisoners, including an estimated 300 children, are languishing in Israeli jails, living under bleak conditions. The Israeli government has passed a law which allows for the arrest of children aged 12 and above for “terrorist offenses”.
