Permission to Visit Yusuf Tarigami

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on August 28

THE Supreme Court heard the petition on habeas corpus filed by CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury to produce CPI(M) leader and four time MLA, Yusuf Tarigami whose whereabouts are unknown since August 5.

The Supreme Court has ordered that Sitaram Yechury be permitted to visit Yusuf Tarigami in Kashmir. Accordingly Sitaram Yechury will travel to Srinagar tomorrow, August 29. He will inform the authorities in J&K in the hope that at least this time they will facilitate the meeting.

The general secretary had made two attempts earlier to meet Tarigami but was turned away at Srinagar airport by the authorities on both occasions.

He will file an affidavit before the Supreme Court on his return.

CPI(M) General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury, has addressed the following letter to Jammu & Kashmir governor, Satya Pal Malik regarding his visit to Srinagar on August 29:

The Supreme Court of India in an order delivered today has asked me to go to Kashmir and visit my colleague Mohd. Yusuf Tarigami and file an affidavit on my return to the court detailing his health condition.

In pursuance of the orders of the apex court, I have decided to come to Srinagar tomorrow and meet Tarigami.

Since I am not keeping good health and require assistance, personal attendant would also be accompanying me.

Since I am coming there in pursuance of the directions of the Supreme Court, I hope that I will be permitted a personal attendant.

An early reply is solicited to facilitate travel arrangements.
