MAHARASHTRA: Massive Joint Kisan Convention Steps Up Struggle against BJP Regime

A MASSIVE statewide convention of over 10,000 peasants was held at Jalgaon on September 26, 2017 under the banner of the Coordination Committee of Farmers’ Organisations of Maharashtra. This was the next step in the ongoing struggle for loan waiver and remunerative prices, directed against the BJP-led government in the state and at the centre. The last major joint action on August 14 had seen over two lakh peasants blocking all the national highways and state highways (chakka Jaam) in more than 200 centres in 31 districts of Maharashtra.

THE statement of RSS chief that constitutional amendments were needed to fully integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country is an eye opener for those who have still illusions about the intentions of the RSS and its affiliates.It is not surprising because RSS and its political affiliates Bhartiya Jan Sangh and BJP has consistent position about the Article 370. The special status of J&K was always an eyesore for them.

HIMACHAL PRADESH: CPI(M) Prepares for Assembly Elections

THE elections to the Himachal Pradesh state assembly may be announced any day and are expected to be in the second week of November 2017. The CPI(M) well in advance, has released its list of candidates who have even started the campaign in their respective constituencies. The Party is contesting in 13 seats that include four in Shimla , three in Mandi, two in Hamirpur and one each in Kullu, Solan, Sirmour and Lahaul and Spiti districts.The CPI(M) earlier had won two seats in Mandi and another in Shimla.

PUNJAB: Comrade Surjeet’s Death Anniversary Observed

PEOPLE from all walks of life from many places in Punjab converged at the Girls School grounds of Bundala Manjhki (Jalandhar), native village of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet, former general secretary of CPI(M) and a Communist leader of international repute to pay him tributes on his ninth death anniversary, on September 24.  Besides state leaders of CPI(M), leaders of various political parties paid their tributes to Comrade Surjeet.

ASSAM: Massive Peasant Convention at Guwahati

LIKE the entire country Assam also has been witnessing unprecedented agrarian distress due to the anti-peasant neo-liberal economic policies pursued by BJP-led governments both at the centre and the state. The woes of the peasantry in Assam have all the more aggravated by the problem of devastating floodS and erosion that visits the state annually in several phases; the utter lack of irrigation facilities in the state; the non-possession of land pattas by overwhelming majority of the peasantry and the large scale eviction drive undertaken by the state government.

MAHARASHTRA: Whole-Timers State Workshop Held

AS part of the implementation of the state organisational plenum decisions, the CPI(M) Maharashtra state committee organised a state level workshop for Party whole-timers at Solapur on August 19-20, 2017. It had organised a state Party class in Mumbai in June and seven regional Party classes are due in September and October. Some important decisions about the state Party weekly ‘Jeewan Marg’ have led to a doubling of its circulation from July. From November 15 to December 15, a statewide call has been given to collect one crore rupees as whole-timers fund.
