WEST BENGAL: CM’s Concerns on NRC are Doubtful

CPI(M) West Bengal state secretary Suryakant Misra in a  statement  issued on July 30, has demanded that all citizens residing in Assam should be enlisted in NRC.He said people of West Bengal are concerned about developments in Assam. It is doubtful whether the statement of the West Bengal chief minister in this regard is actually aimed to address this concern. The role of TMC in the past on citizenship issue is one reason for this doubt.

TAMIL NADU: Opposition leaders call for overthrowing BJP Govt

SPEAKING at a seminar on “  challenges  facing India” at Chennai  organized by the Tamil Nadu Platform for People’s Unity on July 29, the leaders of the CPI(M), Congress, DMK and CPI  said that Modi government has failed on all fronts and called for ending the BJP rule.CPI(M)  General Secretary  Sitaram Yechury said that India is facing multiple challenges. The four pillars of the Indian constitution are severely attacked by the BJP government. It has failed on four major fronts ; economy, democracy, social justice and ensuring the state government rights.

MOVEMENT FOR INDIA’S FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE: MIFI campaigns on the Crisis Gripping the Financial Sector

A JOINT meeting of leaders of various political parties, central trade unions, service organisations, trade unions and officers organisations in banking and insurance sectors, non-governmental organisations(NGO), women organisations, youth and student organisations etc., have decided to launch a movement against the grave crisis gripping the financial sector. The movement has been named as Movement for India’s Financial Independence (MIFI).Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, inaugurated the national level campaign of MIFI on June 18 at Martyrs Column, Thiruvananthapuram.

CPI(M) Protest before Police Headquarters in Agartala

In a surprising move the CPI(M) on July 30,  organized a mass dharna in front of the state police headquarters forcing the DGP to receive deputation from the party. Without any prior notice hundreds of CPI(M) workers assembled in front of the PHQ and started shouting slogans for defending democracy,  establishing rule of law, immediate halt of post poll violence, police action against the perpetrators of violence.

Writ Petition in the SC Challenging Article 35 A: CPI(M) Files Intervention Application

CPI(M) leader, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami has filed an intervention application in the pending writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging Article 35 A of the Constitution of India - Special Provision for the State of Jammu and Kashmir - introduced as per Constitution (application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order 1954. The Party is of the unequivocal opinion that Article 35 A, shall in no circumstance be annulled, modified or repealed.

ASSAM: Every Single Indian Citizen Must be Included in NRC: CPI(M)

THE CPI(M) Assam state committee, in a statement issued on July 31, has said that the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) is published on time as stipulated by the Supreme Court (SC) . As stated by NRC authority, out of a total 3.29 crore applicants 2.89 crores are included in the final draft. It means around 40 lakhs are not included in the draft. It is noticed that there are a lot of anomalies in the preparation of the draft NRC. A large number of women are left out from the draft who had submitted panchayat certificate as the linkage document.

ANDHRA PRADESH: Women Workers Militant Protest against Privatisation of Mid-day Meal Scheme

A LARGE number of women mid-day meal workers tried to lay siege to Andhra Pradesh state HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s house at Visakhapatnam on July 30 opposing the government’s decision to introduce cluster system all over the state and run the mid-day meal scheme through private agencies. Police did not allow them to enter the street on which the house is located, but the workers stormed through the barricades leading to arrests. There was pushing and jostling with the protesters trying to reach up to the gate of the minister’s house.

Unorganised Sector Workers Strike in Delhi

AT the joint call of Delhi units of 11 central trade unions (CTUs), a strike was observed on July 20 by unorganised sector workers in Delhi and adjoining areas of Noida and Ghaziabad in NCR over their various demands including enforcement of notified minimum wage of Rs 13,896 for unskilled workers and fixation of minimum wage at Rs 20,000.Their demands included common wage board for the entire NCR region; safety measures at work places; regularisation of contract workers; registration and welfare benefits to construction workers; stopping the removal of street vendors; constitution of all l
