CPI(M) state committee of Telangana held a two-day plenum at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Hyderabad on December 3-4. Senior leader of the Party, Sarampally Mallareddy hoisted the red flag. Nearly 575 delegates attended the plenum from 34 districts and took part in the discussions. The plenum passed four resolutions – on women’s security, religious fanaticism, RTC strike and January 8 general strike, state government’s undemocratic policies and other issues.
Polit Bureau member BV Raghavulu, speaking at the plenum, said that religious fanaticism in the country has only become more intense since the BJP returned to power for the second time in May 2019. He said that the BJP is making all efforts to divide the country and called upon everyone to fight against such forces.
Criticising the lockdown on Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the ruling parties have been using the issues of the region for their selfish ends. He said that the Congress party which ruled the country for most part is also vacillating. The state is deprived of its special status with the abolishment of Article 370, 35(A) with a stroke of a pen. He said that it is against the aspirations of the people of Kashmir, the spirit of the constitution and democracy. He added that the move was an insult to the people of Kashmir and the denial of the rights of Kashmiris will have its impact on the special rights of other regions.
Raghavulu exhorted the delegates to fight on the cultural front against religious sentiments. He said that the BJP is further imposing its ideology with the slogans of ‘Hindi, Hindu, Hindustan’. He slammed the Modi government for ignoring the economy of the country. Talking about the 53-day RTC strike in Telangana, he said that it stands as an indication of prevalent dictatorship and said that if unions are banned, the existence of the unit will be uncertain.
Speaking to the media on the announcement made by home minister Amit Shah that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be implemented in every state in the country, he said that the move will only help in deepening hatred and prejudices on the basis of religion. When NRC was implemented, all the political parties agitated against it, he reminded. He demanded that central instructions to set up NRC camps all over the country be withdrawn. He added that the CPI(M) vehemently opposed the government’s decision to implement NRC in the country.
He took a dig at the false promises made by the BJP on strengthening the economy. He said that because of the falling purchasing power of the people, the economy is going into recession and to make it worse for them, the government has given Rs 3.50 lakh concession to the corporates. He demanded that a country-wide loan waiver should be declared and money should be placed in the hands of the farmers and other common people. Unemployed should be provided jobs both in rural and urban areas and infrastructure should be improved, he demanded and added that roads, projects, railways should be built to improve the economic status of the country.
Declaring support to the national general strike on January 8, he said that it is a strike in rural areas as well as industrial areas. He called upon all classes of people to participate in the January strike. Modi government is more loyal to foreign countries than our country, he criticised.
A presidium comprising Central Committee member Cherupally Seetharamulu, secretariat members T Jyothi, B Venkat M Saibabu and John Wesley conducted the plenum.
Speaking on the occasion, T Veerabhadram, CPI(M) state secretary, said that many issues were discussed including ways to improve common people's understanding of religious fanaticism. The affiliated units of RSS are imposing religious fanaticism on people and there is a danger for Christians, Muslims and dalits in the country. We will take up campaign for religious amity in this month, he said.
Talking about the RTC strike, Veerabhadram said that if the concessions announced after the strike were announced before the strike itself, it could have averted problems for the people. We are looking at 2020 as a year of organisation, he said and added that they will take up struggles by mobilising people from all classes. He said that communist movement as an alternate, will be taken forward.
