Slum Dwellers hold massive march in Bhubaneswar

A MASSIVE march of the slum dwellers was held from Saliasahi to Vidhan Sabha on November 22  in Bhubaneswar against their proposed eviction. Later a strong public meeting was held in which more than 20,000 people participated.  This seven kilometre march in the city brought the issue of the slum dwellers to the fore.It may be put on record that the slum dwellers of Saliasahi region of the city have not been served any notice directly by the government agencies.

Odisha: Urban workshop in Bhubaneswar

A WORKSHOP on the problems of urban areas and tasks ahead was organised by CPI(M) Odisha state committee at Bhubanewar on Nov 10, 2019. Tikender Singh Panwar from all India centre attended the workshop and inaugurated it.  Jagganath Mishra, state secretariat member of the party presided over the meeting where, Suresh Panigrahi, state secretariat member placed the theme paper and future tasks on urban issues. Thirty eight Party leaders and activists working in the cities representing five districts and seven cities including state capital Bhubaneswar attended this workshop.

Kerala: Clarity on SC order needed

IN a response to the Supreme Court’s decision on Sabarimala,  Kerala chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan on November 14 said that the government has already clarified that it will abide by whatever the apex court decides. However, more clarity is needed on today's decision to leave the matter to the seven member bench. This is majority decision while two judges expressed their dissent. Earlier judgement of five member bench still exists. Apex court did not stay the previous judgement.

Accept the demands of the Students

THE Delhi state committee of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the barbaric police action against the students of JNU on November 18, during their Parliament march. In this police action many students have sustained serious injuries and women students have been assaulted by male constables.Malicious campaign of misinformation has been carried out by the university administration, as well as BJP-RSS on the issue on which students of JNU have been agitating for last three weeks. West Bengal: Massive Rally Floods East Midnapore

LATEST in a series of large mobilisations by CPI(M) , a massive rally was held in Chandipur, East Midnapore on November 18. Thousands of people from all over the district gathered with red flags in Chandipur, close to Nandigram. The rally was culmination of intensive campaign on peoples’ issues. Party leaders and activists visited more than 200 village panchayats and more than 100 municipal wards and talked with people. In door to door campaign they exchanged views and listened to peoples’ grievances against TMC rule. East Midnapore is one of the most terrorised areas, ruled by TMC gangs.

TAMIL NADU: Chennai Convention Calls for Equal Status to All National Languages

AS part of Sangh Parivar’s agenda, the Modi government is vigorously pursuing the promotion of Hindi and Sanskrit in every possible manner. Its Draft National Education Policy 2019 openly promotes Sanskrit to the detriment of several other Indian languages deemed to be national languages under Schedule 8 of the Indian Constitution.

Telangana Transport Workers’ Protest

ON the call of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation Joint Action Committee (TSRTC JAC), thousands of workers lay siege to the famous Tank Bund in Hyderabad on November 9, braving unprecedented repression and police restrictions. Barricades, fences and lathi-wielding policemen could not deter the workers who challenged the government and shouted slogans like “this is the beginning of KCR’s downfall”. Hundreds of people joined the workers in their protest. Police used teargas shells and lathis to stop the workers from reaching the site.
