Martyr Abhimanyu

THE people of Kerala, particularly student community, have emotionally bid adieu to a young student who aspired to become a scientist. Abhimanyu was killed by a terror squad belonging to Campus Front, a student outfit of an Islamic Terror group. Abhimanyu, an SFI leader who belonged to a remote hamlet of Vattavada in high range district, Idukki was stabbed to death at 12.30 am on July 2.  Just 20 years old, Abhimanyu was a staunch fighter of SFI and a brilliant student at Maharajas College, who became the victim of communal elements, who has recently spread in certain campuses of Kerala.

THE scenes at Maharajas College, Ernakulam on July 2 were heart-breaking. The body of Abhimanyu, a second year B.Sc. student of the college, who was murdered by criminals belonging to the Popular Front of India (PFI), had been brought there for the public to pay respects. Amid the large crowd which gathered to catch a glimpse of the slain young man, his mother sat, wearing a green jacket. Her cry, "Naan petta makane..." (“The son I gave birth to…”) pierced the air every now and then. Abhimanyu's friends and comrades raised slogans in his memory:"A martyr doesn't die!

TAMIL NADU: Chennai-Salem NH Mooted against Farmers’ Will, AIKS Gears up with Protests

EVEN as the AIADMK is drawing flak for Tuticorin massacre, the Tamil Nadu government has embarked on another step of its anti-people measures by announcing an 8-lane national highway connecting Chennai and Salem.The proposed 8 lane highway, with a width of 900 meters for a distance of 277.3 kms at a cost of about Rs 11,000 crores, the highway, totaling about 2,343 hectares of land is proposed to run across five districts namely Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem districts in Tamil Nadu.

The latest victim of this spree of murders is Comrade Sutradhar. In the night of June 18th, Comrade Tapas Sutradhar, CPI(M) Panisagar subdivisional committee member,  member of AIKS state committee and a former member of North Tripura Zilla Parishad was brutally murdered  when he was on the way back home after attending a marriage ceremony.  He was attacked by the BJP-IPFT goons and killed with a sharp weapon.

Seeking Coach Factory in Kerala: Kerala CM Stages Protest in Delhi

CHIEF Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, led a protest of LDF MPs from Kerala in front of the Rail Bhavan in Delhi demanding the intervention of the prime minister in building a Rail Coach Factory at Kanjikkode in Palakkad district. Earlier, the railway ministry decided to backtrack from Kanjikkode coach factory, which was announced in the 2008 railway budget. The present NDA government is following the same negligence towards Kerala as the previous UPA government was pursuing, said the chief minister.The railway ministry has decided to scrap the proposed Rs 550 crore coach factory.

CPI(M) and CPI Joint Campaign in Andhra Pradesh

CPI(M) and CPI have jointly given a call for state-wide political action in the run up to the protest march on September 15. Both the parties have held a joint meeting of the activists in Vijayawada and decided that in the whole month of August they will hold a bus yatra touring all of Andhra Pradesh. Both the parties also gave a call for a three-month long campaign on the issues of tenant farmers, diversion of NREGA funds, rise in petrol and fertilizer prices.

100 Days of BJP-IPFT Repressive Rule in Tripura

YET another CPI(M) leader, Tapas Sutradhar of Panisagar Sub-Division under North Tripura district, was killed on June 18 by the BJP assassins. Sutradhar was the Party’s Panisagar sub-divisional committee member, state committee member of the All India Kisan Sabha, and former pradhan of Uttar Padmabill gram panchayat. His body was identified by the villagers the next morning. He was killed at Padmabill near his house, while he was returning from a marriage ceremony at night. His throat was found slit. It is a pre-planned political murder carried out by BJP assassins.

TAMIL NADU: CPI(M) Holds Week-long Rallies Across the State on People’s Issues

WITH an aim of raising awareness on Tuticorin massacre and to highlight the grievances of the people of Tamil Nadu, the state committee of CPI(M) has conducted rallies for a week, from June 8-14,  across the state. These rallies originated from six corners of the state, namely Thiruvallur, Vellore, Nilgiris, Cuddalore, Ettayapuram and Kanyakumari and exposed the crony capitalist actions of the state and the centre.After campaigning in the districts along the way, the above rallies have converged at Trichy on June 14.
