West Bengal: Struggle against CAA to continue on the streets
THE Kolkatta district committee of the CPI(M) held a massive rally against the CAA and the proposed NPR and NRC. The rally was held at Shaheed Minar, Kolkatta on January 20, 2020. Thousands of people from different sections of the society participated in the rally. The public meeting was addressed by Surjya Kanta Mishra, state secretary of CPI(M), Mohammad Salim, Polit Bureau member of the Party and other leaders.
Surjya Kanta Mishra said that the Kerala state assembly has passed a resolution against the CAA and moved to the Supreme Court against it. While ridiculing the West Bengal state government, he said that it can go to the court to protect itself from the chit fund scam but is not prepared to raise the issue of CAA. He called on the people to not to show any documents during the NPR process.
Salim said that the BJP must be told that we will not show any papers and that the people leading the freedom movement did not have any paper; they fought for a secular and democratic India. He said the BJP is doing all this to scare the people. He said the people should unite and this will scare the BJP government which will be forced to recall the CAA and NPR. Salim held the Mamta government responsible for the present communal atmosphere and for damaging the history of communal amity in the state.
