Former SCA office bearers of HPU meet the Governor

THE former office-bearers of Students Central Association(SCA) of Himachal Pradesh University(HPU), Shimla marched to the Raj Bhawan, Shimla and submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the governor of state of Himachal Pradesh requesting his urgent intervention in the removal of vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU).

The 39 signatories to the memorandum were leaders of student community who were elected office bearers of the elected union(SCA) in HPU. They extended their solidarity with the students and teachers of JNU amidst the current turmoil as their agitation for fee rollback has been met with aggressive repression, wherein students and teachers of the university have been brutally assaulted, under the implicit support of the vice- chancellor.

The HPU-SCA has a legacy of waging long battles in defense of public education and against attacks on public education in Himachal Pradesh under the leadership of SFI. It is this legacy which these former leaders are upholding in defense of public education and in defense of the inclusive character of the JNU.

The delegation said that the attacks on university are not new under this BJP regime and all these attacks have a motive of commercialisation of education. The delegation through memorandum urged the president to sack VC of JNU.

The delegation extended their support to the fighting students and teachers of JNU who were keeping the flames of resistance high even in the most tense atmosphere of fear which is prevailing in the premier university after the attack.

The SCA office bearers who signed the memorandum include Rakesh Singha first president of HPU and an MLA from Theog, Ghanshyam Chauhan, Kashmir Singh Thakur, Guman Singh, Yashpal Dhaulta, Umesh Sharma, Sanjeev Bhushan, Amar Singh Raghwa, Rajinder Negi, Surender Verma, Vishal Shankta, Vijender Mehra, Prem Gautam, Jagdish Thakur, Jogender Sharma, Puneet Dhanta, Khushi Verma, Neeraj maniktala, Kushal Bhardwaj, Trilok Bhaluni, Vishwa Bhushan, Neeraj Vasu, Prashant Thakur, Hem Singh Thakur, Shikha Chauhan, Yogesh Ranta, Gaurav Thakur, Kalpana Kanwar, Kusum Thakur, Vipin Mehta, Lokinder Kumar, Hoshiar Thakur, Rahul Chauhan, Vikram Kaith, Amit Kumar, Rajan Harta, Monica Dadda and Niranjan Verma.
