Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on October 2, 2022

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its profound grief at the passing away of Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, an outstanding leader of the Party.  He was a member of the Polit Bureau and, until recently, the secretary of the Kerala state committee of the Party.

Balakrishnan died on October 1, 2022 in a hospital in Chennai after a prolonged struggle against cancer. He was 68 years old.

No Interference in Parties’ Rights

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on October 5

THE Election Commission’s proposal to amend the Model Code of Conduct to guide political parties to disclose how they plan to finance promises made in their election manifestos and how this would impact the financial situation of the state governments concerned or central government is a totally unwarranted move.

On PFI Ban

THE Popular Front of India (PFI) is an organisation which holds extremist views and has been indulging in violent activities against its perceived opponents.  The CPI(M) has been strongly opposed to these extremist views and has always condemned the violent activities of the PFI.

West Bengal: Release CPI(M) Leaders

CPI(M)  Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on September 2

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) condemns the brutal police assault on a peaceful protest in Purba Bardhaman district headquarters in West Bengal.  Over 250 CPI(M) activists and leaders were seriously injured and over 170 were arrested. 41 of these, including Central Committee member of CPI(M) Abhas Roy Choudhury, have been denied bail and imprisoned.

Pegasus Case: Judiciary Must Ensure Accountability of the Executive

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on August 26, 2022

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly denounces the refusal of the union government to be accountable before the judiciary and to the country on the use of Pegasus, a military grade spyware, against our own citizens.  The committee appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate the use of this spyware has informed that the government was “not cooperative”.  This is unacceptable.

Reject this Throttling of Parliament

CPI(M)  Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on July 27

THE suspension of four opposition MPs of the Lok Sabha and 20 MPs of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha including two MPs of the CPI(M) on successive days is a serious blow to the democratic functioning of parliament. It is also an assault on the basic rights of freedom of expression of members of parliament.

Roll back these GST Hikes

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on July 20, 2022:

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) strongly condemns the latest round of unprecedented burdens imposed on the people through the GST hikes on all essential commodities such as pre-packaged rice, wheat, and milk. The Polit Bureau demands that these hikes be immediately rolled back.

Withdraw Authoritarian Orders to MPs

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on July 15, 2022

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemns the dictatorial order stating that members of parliament cannot conduct any protest actions in the precincts of the parliament house

MPs routinely conduct protest actions to make their point of view on all important matters concerning the country and the people. This has been their democratic right since the Indian parliament began functioning.
