Assam Evictions: Inhuman, Unconstitutional & Communal

ON September 29, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat visited the eviction affected villages in Darrang district of Assam along with a delegation comprising Suprakash Talukdar, CPI(M) Central Committee member, MLA Monoranjan Talukdar, secretariat member Ajit and other state leaders. On their return, the delegation tried to meet the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma to present to him their findings. Since he was not available at the time, Brinda Karat wrote a letter to him. Below we publish the text of the letter.We went to Dhalpur 1, 2 and 3 and met scores of evicted people.

Withdraw Draconian Ordinance Banning Strike by Defence Employees

ELAMARAM Kareem, Rajya Sabha member of the CPI(M) criticised the union government for issuing an ordinance banning the employees engaged in essential defence services from taking part in any agitation or strike. He said that the ordinance was passed in an attempt to thwart the indefinite strike by the employees of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) on July 26.He wrote to Rajnath Singh, the union defense minister on July 3, seeking withdrawal of the ordinance, and said that there is widespread protest from all sections of the society against this ordinance.

Vote on Palestine: Protest Letter to PM

LODGING strong protest over India’s vote of abstention in the UN Human Rights Council on the Resolution on the Palestinian issue and human rights of all peoples, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 4, 2021.He wrote, “Indian people’s support to the legitimate Palestinian right to their  homeland predates our independence and was part of our freedom  struggle. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to chief ministers of 11 non-BJP states on June 1, urging them to demand the union government to ensure free universal vaccination. Delhi: Arrest Mishra for Spreading Enmity

IN a letter written to the Delhi police commissioner on February 16, 2021, Brinda Karat, Polit Bureau Member and K M Tiwari,  Delhi state secretary of CPI(M) demanded  immediate arrest of Kapil Mishra, a leader  of the BJP for spreading enmity through a toolkit created by him on a social media platform ‘Telegram’, called the “Hindu  Eco System.”The letter referred to a news item published in News Laundry, a news portal, on February 15, 2021.

Don’t Discriminate in Compensation

ON January 6, Brinda Karat, Member, Polit Bureau of Communist Party of India (Marxist) wrote a letter to the chief minister of Delhi urging him to give compensation to the families of minor victims who were killed in the communal violence in north east Delhi.Brinda Karat said that she recently re-met the family members of two victims, both minors, who were killed in the communal violence in north east Delhi.
