Ministry Proposals Favour Private Interests

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member,  Brinda Karat, has written a letter to Bhupendra Yadav, union minister for environment, forests and climate change, government of India on October 6, on the ‘Consultation Paper on Proposed amendments in the Forest (Conservation) Act 1980’ (FCA).  Below we publish the text of the letter.THE ministry has invited comments/suggestions on proposed amendments in the FCA. Assam Evictions: Inhuman, Unconstitutional & Communal

ON September 29, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat visited the eviction affected villages in Darrang district of Assam along with a delegation comprising Suprakash Talukdar, CPI(M) Central Committee member, MLA Monoranjan Talukdar, secretariat member Ajit and other state leaders. On their return, the delegation tried to meet the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma to present to him their findings. Since he was not available at the time, Brinda Karat wrote a letter to him. Below we publish the text of the letter.We went to Dhalpur 1, 2 and 3 and met scores of evicted people.

Withdraw Draconian Ordinance Banning Strike by Defence Employees

ELAMARAM Kareem, Rajya Sabha member of the CPI(M) criticised the union government for issuing an ordinance banning the employees engaged in essential defence services from taking part in any agitation or strike. He said that the ordinance was passed in an attempt to thwart the indefinite strike by the employees of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) on July 26.He wrote to Rajnath Singh, the union defense minister on July 3, seeking withdrawal of the ordinance, and said that there is widespread protest from all sections of the society against this ordinance.

Vote on Palestine: Protest Letter to PM

LODGING strong protest over India’s vote of abstention in the UN Human Rights Council on the Resolution on the Palestinian issue and human rights of all peoples, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 4, 2021.He wrote, “Indian people’s support to the legitimate Palestinian right to their  homeland predates our independence and was part of our freedom  struggle. Our support to the Palestinian cause emerged as a national  consensus.
