The Supreme Court on February 14 has convicted Sasikala setting aside the Karnataka High Court verdict acquitting her in the 18 year-old disproportionate assets case that also involved the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa. The CPI(M) has welcomed the Supreme Court judgement and said this serves as a warning to all those in public life who indulge in corruption.

CITU Tamilnadu State Conference Calls for Consolidating Working Class Unity

THE 13th conference of CITU’s Tamilnadu state unit was held in the pearl city of Tuticorin on September 9-12. The conference called upon the working class of Tamilnadu to consolidate the unity among various sections and forge a militant fight against the central and state governments that pursue neo-liberal economic policies against the interests of the workers.

CITU Wins NLC Elections

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has won a massive support of workers of the 'Navratna' company Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd, in the elections for recognition of unions.
The elections were held on June 17. The results were announced at the night on the same day.
There are 13 unions in the NLC. Among them six unions, CITU, ATP, LPF, PTS, BMS and AITUC contested in this secret ballot voting.
As the permanent employees of NLC are only eligible to vote, 11,109 were the voters. Among them 10,680 votes were polled.

The Struggle For An Alternative, Pro-People Politics Will Continue

THE elections to the legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu held on May 16, 2016, have resulted in a more or less bipolar outcome. Of the 232 constituencies where the polls were held, the AIADMK along with its allies has won 134 seats. The main opposition party, the DMK, has won 89 seats while its major ally, the Indian National Congress (INC) won 8 and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), another ally of the DMK, won one seat.

The Energetic Campaign by the CPI(M)

THE elections for Tamilnadu Assembly are scheduled on May 16 along with Kerala. In Tamilnadu for the first time an alternative front has been formed against both DMK and AIADMK. This front consists of CPI(M), CPI, MDMDK (headed by Vaiko), VCK (a strong dalit party) which together had formed Peoples Welfare Front. Later on, DMDK of Vijaykanth and TMC of GK Vasan (son of Karuppiaih Moopanar and former central minister) also joined and a six party alliance emerged. This six party alliance has been giving many sleepless nights to both the dominant parties of the state.

TAMILNADU: CPI(M) Election Campaign Calls for Electing PWF

 

THE people of Tamilnadu have always shown a new way during times of crisis, and continuing the tradition; the time has come to elect a people-centric government led by the People’s Welfare Front, Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of CPI (M), said in the election campaign.

CPI(M) leaders Sitaram Yechury and Brinda Karat started campaign in various parts of Tamilnadu from May 4. Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar, Party Polit Bureau members Prakash Karat, AK Padmanabhan and Central Committee member Sudha Sundararaman also took part in the campaign.

TAMIL NADU: Oppression on Dalits should be Fought, says Brinda Karat

THE Dravidian parties have betrayed the cause of Periyar and strayed away from the principles of the Dravidian movement leaving in the lurch the Dalits and the poor of the state, said CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat at Dharmapuri on February 13.

Addressing a public meeting of Makkal Nala Kootani (Peoples' Welfare Alliance), the CPI(M) leader said that people had become pawns in the political power play between the two parties, the AIADMK and the DMK.
