Three Years of Modi Government: Boon for Corporate Defaulters

INDIA’S banking system, which was robust enough to withstand the financial crisis of 2008, is facing yet another crisis today. The banks, particularly the public sector ones, are burdened with huge amounts of non-performing assets (NPAs), which are threatening the viability of the banking sector.In the last three years, under BJP rule at the centre, the NPAs of the banks have tripled - from Rs 2.3 lakh crores to Rs 6.8 lakh crores.

Stop Targetting of NDTV

THE Delhi Union of Journalists, in a statement  issued on June 5  has expressed serious concern at the CBI raids on the homes of Prannoy Roy, executive chairperson of NDTV, ostensibly for defaulting on a bank loan.We note that the raids come directly after a primetime spat between NDTV executive editor Nidhi Razdan and BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra. Patra had accused the channel of being biased in its coverage and having an ‘agenda’. Razdan had objected strongly, telling him he could leave the show if he wished.

BIHAR: CPI(M) Organises Campaign on Burning Issues

THE three year rule of the Modi led BJP government at the centre has brought all-round miseries for the people, through snatching away the livelihood of vast number of unorganized sector workers through demonetisation, banning cattle sale, cutting allocations for various social welfare measures like old age pensions, MNREGA, ICDS programme etc. Linking of Aadhar cards for getting ration and benefits from other social security measures has rendered vast number of genuine beneficiaries ineligible.

AIKS Protests against Killing of Farmers in Mandsaur

ACTIVISTS of organisations of peasants, students, women and social workers held a demonstration in front of Madhya Pradesh Bhawan at Chankyapuri in New Delhi to protest the cruel murder of eight farmers at Mandsaur in police firing by the BJP led state government.The Madhya Pradesh government consciously tried to break the unity of farmers by influencing sections of the leadership to withdraw the struggle; by not holding discussion with the leadership of the agitation on their genuine demands of debt waiver and remunerative price to crops.

On EVM Testing

Statement issued by team of experts who attended the Election Commission’s EVM Testing meet on behalf of the CPI(M), on June 4.A CPI(M) technical team comprising of Hardware, Embedded Systems and Security Experts had visited the ECI Office on June 3 for participating in the EVM testing exercise. The team wanted to check not only the EVMs but how the EVMs can be used with a set of safeguards, including voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT).

Attempt to Disrupt Press Conference

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on June 7.THE Polit Bureau strongly condemns the efforts made by two persons claiming allegiance to an RSS outfit to disrupt a press conference being addressed by general secretary Sitaram Yechury at the end of the two-day meeting of the Polit Bureau.Masquerading as journalists these persons tried to enter the hall where the conference was being held and started shouting anti-CPI(M) slogans.

Draft Decree on the Right of Recall

The revolutionary state had to have a new democratic system which represented the will of the people. Lenin wanted an electoral system of proportional representation with the right of recall of elected representatives. Lenin presented a report on the Right of Recall at a meeting dated, November 21 (December 4), 1917 in which he said: “The question of re-election is one of actually implementing the democratic principle. It is the accepted practice in all leading countries that only the elected are entitled to speak in the language of state legislation.
