Fascism in Practice: The Israeli Police Decides to Close Down the Headquarters of the Communist Party in Haifa

ISRAEL and Ben Gvir's police have just decided to shut the headquarters of the Communist Party in Haifa for ten hours starting at 19:00 this evening (August 26, 2024). 

Earlier, the police summoned Comrade Reem Hazan for the second time this afternoon and conducted an investigation with her and decided to close the party's headquarters in order to prevent the screening of Muhammad Bakri's new film "Janein Jenin" and the launching of an activity against the aggressive war on Gaza.

Can Europe Break Out of the NATO War in Ukraine?

THERE need not have been a war in Ukraine. The Russian government had made it clear almost two decades ago that it would not tolerate the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) eastward. In 1990, before the fall of the USSR and when the two parts of Germany had negotiated their unification, it had been made clear to the Soviets that NATO would not go beyond the eastern border of Germany. After the fall of the USSR in 1991, NATO violated that agreement and began to absorb states along the border of Russia.

Tripura Devastated by Floods: Communists Step Up with Robust Relief Efforts

EXCEPTIONALLY heavy rainfall in Tripura for 3-4 days from August 19 onwards caused havoc for nearly half of the total population in the state. So far, 32 people have been reported killed, mostly due to landslides and being washed away by the furious river currents. As of August 24, about 1.5 lakh people had taken shelter in 556 camps throughout the state, mostly in school buildings, other government premises, clubhouses, and even CPI(M) offices.

Remove Provision Blocking Regularisation of Contractual Workers in Karnataka: CITU

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) submitted a memorandum to Karnataka chief minister S Siddaramaiah on August 22, regarding the Karnataka Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (Reservation of Appointments (Amendment) Act, 2024. While the CITU acknowledges the positive aspects of the amendment, which includes provisions for reservations for SC, ST, and OBC candidates in outsourced jobs within government departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs), it has expressed significant concerns over a specific proviso in the legislation.

Rising Communal Tensions in Assam

THE CPI(M) Assam state committee, on August 28, expressed deep concern over the rising tensions among various communities in the state over the past two weeks, noting a significant decline in law and order. It highlighted that certain organisations have unfairly blamed entire communities for specific incidents, thereby exacerbating tensions and spreading hatred.In Sivasagar, tensions were heightened by accusations against the Marwari community following a heinous assault, leading thousands to protest in the streets.

AIKS Demands Adequate Relief to Tripura Flood Victims

TRIPURA has been hit by unprecedented rainfall during the period August 19-23, 2024 leading to the most devastating floods in recent times. Thirty one people have been killed and some are reported missing. AIKS, in a statement issued on August 29, has condoled the loss of lives and expressed its solidarity with their families. There has been widespread loss of crops, cattle and massive damage to houses.

AIKS Condemns BJP MP's Statements against Farmers

THE All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), in a statement issued on August 16, has  strongly condemned the irresponsible and malicious statements made by Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Mandi against farmers and the historic farmers’ movement that ferociously fought the corporate takeover of Indian agriculture. In a recent interview with a Hindi daily, the actress turned BJP MP described the farmers’ movement as an anti-national force engaged in destabilising India with the help of “external forces”.

AIDWA Stands with the Women in the Cinema Field

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on August 27, has welcomed the release of the Hema Committee report which has painstakingly conducted an inquiry into the shocking atrocities against women in the film industry. It is the first time that a state government has formed a committee to study the malpractices in the film industry and harassment that women have to undergo. It is a known fact that women working in the film industry are victimised everywhere.
